Finally, after thinking that there would never be another installment of the series, this news kicks my ass. Knowing that it's still developed by GameArts & that the battle system is intact (as well as Square/Enix doing the translation/distribution), I know this is going to be some primo product. Platform designation means nothing to me. It could be an X Box exclusive and I'd still be all over it like a cheap date. I haven't been this excited for a release since RE4.

I've only ever played Grandia 2, on the DC, just finished it in fact.
I really liked it, I think the graphics lend themselves more to the DC than to the PS2, I like the DC's inherent shininess paired with the game's bright colors.
Isn't Grandia Xtreme just the PS2 port of Grandia 2? Am I missing something here?
I really need to grab a copy of Grandia 1
EDIT: Just checked ebay, realized that Xtreme is indeed an entirely different game. I shall now procure it immediately. w00t.
Grandia II is a direct port of Grandia II. <-- That's not sarcasm, I promise.
Grandia Xtreme is a complete different game - it's a side-story of sorts that feels different from the the first two games. I think most fans regard it as a let-down compared to the previous incarnations.

For me its the exact opposite. 1 was Incredible and 2 was boring.Originally Posted by WiseSalesman

I think no matter the differing opinions on the first two... we're all excited about the third.
Thanks for the pic! That's awesome.
For the record, I fall into the "preferred II to I, but loved both" category.
Yeah i was amazed at the pics myself. Sure hope the game turns out to be the RPG i have been waiting for in along while.

So...has this been confirmed for a US release yet? It didn't seem like it was shown at E3. I just beat Grandia 2 and loved it to death, so I'm really hoping we'll get this one here too.

No doubt, it will make its way over here....the question is when......

the time bar on that screen looks incredibly confusing! I am interested to see exactly how they will deal with turns in combat this time around. Hopefuly it is the same as grandia II only with more improvements.
Grandia III is set to be released in Japan on August 4th, and has yet to recieve a North America release date, however, just a tid bit of information pertaining to its battle system has been released.
The battle system in Grandia III will have a Strategy Advice System (SAS) and a new Aerial Combo system in battles. During the battle, some of your allies will be able to give you various battle advice, assist you in battles and heal or defend. Sadly, that's all the information present about the SAS system, but expect more updates on it soon!

The site has put out two trailers - you can navigate to them yourself (on the specials page), or here are the direct links (to the hi-res), first link is under 3 meg, second link is over 30 meg. Yes, it's in Japanese.

Looks pretty sweet to me. Some of the cinema reminds me of Skies of Arcadia. And that's not a bad thing.

I actually liked 'Grandia Xtreme', but it felt unfinished.
The fact that you couldn't rotate the landscape around the character with the thumb buttons and that you could 'run away' from the camera in dungeons and had to use that lame 'snap-to-behind-character' button to get back detracted from the enjoyment for me.
I still haven't finished it either - I've fought QuanLee in the end-of-game battle about 5 times, but I haven't got the 'knack' yet, and the fact that the last save point before you reach him is about 10 minutes away (give or take depending on how many battles you have to fight on the way) is highly annoying.
GII was fun on DreamCast. I liked the first one on PSX as well (got it second hand for about 5 pounds, so that was a good buy).
I'll probably pick this one up somewhere along the way, but I don't have much spare time for RPGs these days as I'm married with a baby now...
