How well of a port is this game for the XBox? I know i'm going to get it, but still, I just want to know. Is it worth the $40 for it, or should I try and find it cheaper.

hell first u gatta find it....i cant find them anyware...
I have got the PAL ps2 version. I am running it from a hard drive on my ps2 (ya erd me!). I have been running it in 60HZ through RGB and it looks alright and the hd makes loading a breeze.
Slowdown doesn't seem to be a big issue, but the only gripe that i have got is that the colors on the ps2 version aren't true to the arcade version becuase of the crappy encoder on the ps2 when compared to a nice arcade rgb setup (but i am being very picky when i say this)

K-Mart had it for 50% off at the bluelight sale. For $20 I'd say grab it.
I personally am a cheap ass and will wait til I find it cheap at a pawn shop for $10.
It looks good and plays as nice as ever but for $40 you should really get a lot more than a port of the single game. If you see it for $20 or so then MAYBE it'd be worth your time. Personally I wanted to see a Metal Slug compilation with like the first three Metal Slug games, Metal Slug X, and maybe the two NeoGeo Pocket Color versions. ...I'd gladly pay $50 for that.
It's easily worth the $40. It's a much better game than almost all of the junk that comes out at $50 these days. It's not my favorite slug by any means, but it's nice and I do appreciate the differences from the other games even if they aren't my cup of tea.
They should have, it wouldn't exactly be difficult to pull off, though Metal Slug X IS the third metal slug game. But I'm just nitpicking. It's obvious what you mean't.Personally I wanted to see a Metal Slug compilation with like the first three Metal Slug games, Metal Slug X, and maybe the two NeoGeo Pocket Color versions.
You are getting more than just a port. MS 3 also includes Live scorebords, the Fat Island & Storm The Mothership mini-games, and a few other extras. Not much, but it's a nice little bonus.Originally Posted by InsaneDavid

On the plus side, it is uncensored and plays just fine on the xbox controller. Unfortunately, they added a "feature" where you have to start at the begining of a stage when you continue. The last stage is absolutely killer, and quite long so this can be a pain. Still, short of getting an AES/MVS cart, emulating the game or importing the Ps2 version it's all you got.
For what it's worth, the Japanese Ps2 version does not feature this new continue system. Shame SCEA blocked it's Us release...
I got it on launch day and I really enjoy it, although it is pretty hard.
RIP Bargora.
Excellent game. It's harder than the neo geo version because you have to start at the beginning of stages but other than that it seems the same. I think I paid $40 when it came out. It was worth it but if you can find it cheaper that's always nice.
