    Default Top Loader ?

Okay, i just found out ebay is infested with these things...

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...183391858&rd=1

Are these for real at like 20 and 30 dollar price tags ? If they are one would be the answer to my friend's prayers because he's got a bad case of toaster-syndrome, and not enuff money to get an original top-loader like mine.
If anybody here can tell me if these are worth the cash please LMK.

    Thanks

what the heck? Looks more like a Fami-clone then a NES system

Looks cool, but I wonder how good it is
These cartridges are dirty as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!

    "dancing in the moonlight..."

...sorry. They do sound good as replacements for NESes but do look a bit wrong on some level. Maybe it's that it's 3rd party, or maybe I'm just over-attached to the lunchbox, I dunno.

Apparently these games don't work (from the link):

After Burner (semi-playable, many map tiles not displayed)
    Bandit Kings of Ancient China
Castlevania III - Dracula's Curse (hangs when you enter a level)
Gauntlet (Licensed or Unlicensed) (wrong map tiles)
    Gemfire
    L'Empereur
    Laser Invasion (extreme graphics glitches)
    Nobunaga's Ambition II
Rad Racer II (wrong map tiles)
Romance of the Three Kingdoms II
    Uncharted Waters

There are some okay games on here, notably CV III, but otherwise, your friend could probably get by without playing the others. Mike Gedeon (a DP member, I believe) sells these at his store in Cleveland, and he speaks highly of them.

Don't really see the point. It's $43 including shipping at it's cheapest price. You could easily get a working NES system for less. With a little luck you could easily get a real toploading system with everything for the same price or less.

Yeah, that's why I said that about CastleVania 3...

But other then that, it's a pretty fair deal. Can it play Famicom carts as well? (Since it stated it does not need any convertor, etc. in the Ebay description)

Looks like trash to me since most of my favorites are Koie titles.

I'm still looking for a copy of Gemfire....

A working NES isn't new, however, and some people just like seeing the game sticking out of the top, I guess. These actually sell pretty well, from what I hear.

And I think it would take a lot of luck to get a top loader with everything for less than 43 dollars.

I don't like Koei strategy games much, although I own many of them (they use special PCB and I wanted every major PCB Nintendo used.) I may grow to like Unchartered Waters and Gemfire though. As for Castlevania III, well I own its superior Japanese original and a real Famicom on which to run it. I find After Burner, Gauntlet and Rad Racer II to be fun, but they are all unplayable on the clone, After Burner less than the other two. I like Micro Machines, but while the menus are difficult to get working right, when I pay $45 I don't expect anything less than perfection.

However, its the sound that is truly what brings this clone down. I definitely believe that this thing is crap without accurate sound.

Well they vary in price on thEBay tho. I saw a couple with $19.95 BIN's on the list when i first discovered them a couple days ago.

And after reading the Atariage write-up i'm thinking more along the lines of hooking my buddy up with a toaster with new pins instead. NES is my thing...and if it dont look, sound, and play exactly the same as the real deal it's sacrelige in my book.

Just picked up an NES top loader last Tuesday at the local flea market for $5.

I was actually more psyched about the vintage pachinko machine from 1972 I picked up for $25 in really good condition five minutes later.
