    Default dreamcast hacking

I remember all this stuff about getting linux to run on xbox and all.

Dreamcast runs windows ce so did anyone ever get any pc applications running on dreamcast?

Also wondering if you could wire a dreamcast modem to be usable on a pc.

It only runs Windows CE if the game uses, and has it on the disc. Basically Windows CE is just for the game itself, and lacks even the functionality of a PDA OS when it comes to making windows and icons, etc. There is a port of Linux to the DC, however.

It would take quite a bit of effort to use a Dreamcast modem on PC, as they use a parallel bus that is incompatable with anything I'm aware of on a PC (15 lines of I/O)

There's also a port of NetBSD to the Dreamcast, although I can't imagine it's much more useful than the Linux port. Neither is really any good unless you have it networked to a host computer that can serve up some hard drive space. The Windows CE that runs on the Dreamcast doesn't really have a GUI at all, it's basically just the kernel that was sometimes used by programmers who decided it was cheaper or easier or whatever.

From what I've heard, the Dreamcast BBA has a custom chip inside it, and I wouldn't be surprised if the modem has a similar thing in it... I can't imagine any situation where it would be useful to adapt a DC modem to work in a computer anyways, especially since regular modems are cheap as free.
