Default Tuesday Grudge Match: Bonk's Adventure vs. Adventure Island

With the recent news of Konami buying Hudson, I figured the time was right for me to use this one.
Bonk's Adventure convinced many people to pay attention to the TurboGrafx. Adventure Island is a rather well-known NES classic.

I voted for Bonk because I just cannot stand the auto-scolling on Adventure Island games. Well that and Bonk had a lot more viriaty to the stages too.

I voted for Adventure Island. I like that series, and, to be honest, I've never played Bonk. But, stricly speaking in character names, isn't Adventure Island's better? Master Higgins. Sounds like he should have a butler following him around everywhere.

No comparison in my eye. Bonk's Adventure all the way.

Adventure island is good, but I voted for Bonk because well it's the most ridiculous platformer from that era and I like that sort of game.

Even if we're talking about the TG16 Adventure Island which is better than the NES one I would still say Bonk, no contest. The spin bonk gameplay, atmosphere, music and overall personality of the game are far superior.

If we are talking just the originals, (not the sequals) regardless of what version I say Bonk. Even with the continue code in Hudson's Adventure Island for NES, it still frustrates the heck outta me! Bonk I could at least beat. Hudson's Adventure Island I dont think I have ever seen past world 5...

As far as sequals go, I have never played Bonk's Revenge or Bonk 3. I have played however Adventure Island 2, 3, & 4 + Super Adv. Island. I was quite impressed with the later games in the NES series, with the dinosaurs, with different abilities, etc.. Hopefully we will see more Bonk & more Adventure Island with the new Konami / Hudson Merger.....

    One can only hope.

Despite the fact that I've been knowledgeable of the Adventure Island series for longer, I like Bonk's Adventure so much more. If it counts, my favorite game in the series is Air Zonk. Heh... if not, then Bonk's Revenge is my fave. That last stage had me sweating, but I eventually beat it, looked back on the game, and... I realized it was a kickass game. I felt the same way about the first game too. Gotta love those bald prepubescent cro-magnons!

I had both games when I was a child, and played both a lot. In fact, Adventure Island is the game I remember leaving on (with the TV on) for the entire time that I was on vacation at Myrtle Beach. That sticks in my mind. I can't remember if there was any burn-in or not. Adventure Island is also one of the games my dad tried, in vain, to play.

Adventure Island is pretty stinking hard. I mean, you hit a rock, and you die. Not "a rock hits you", but no: YOU walk into a rock and that's it. Also, skateboards with helmets isn't very cool either. It was a fun game, though, but I could never complete it back then. Haven't tried lately. Probably wasn't the "gateway game" to get my dad into. He doesn't play games today.

Bonk's Adventure. I got this for the Turbo-Grafx when I bought it, and it was the best game I had played up to that point. Even though it came with Keith Courage in Alpha Zones, this was the "Mario" or "Sonic" of the system. Shit, if Bonk saw a whole CLIFFSIDE of rocks, he didn't die. He would BITE IT.

I'm going to have to go with Bonk's Adventure.

Bonk's adventure, easily. I love the adventure Island series, but bonk is easily one of the greatest platforming series ever conceived. Plus, Adventure Island is just too damn hard!

Bonk for me here. Both are on the budget Cube release in Japan and I prefer that game to the Adventure Island one

Adventure Island. I love the series. It is hard. But Ive played it lot. Adventure Island 1 is my fave. I use to keep on my nes a week at a time, to keep on playing that game . But my opinion is one sided. I never have played Bonk's. I need to get that game.

Adventure Island for me. Never have played any of the "Bonk" games, being that I haven't had the opportunity to play the TurboGrafx-16. But from what I saw on "Nick Arcade", the game does look good.

Adventure Island, if for no other reason it has its roots in the Wonder Boy series.

And any tie, even very distant, to Wonder Boy in Monster World makes it praise worthy

    Bonks's Adventure.
Why? Because I'm a Turbo Grafx fanboy.
