Default Has a video game ever inspired you in some way?

Has a game ever pushed you to do something you normally wouldn't do? Maybe like draw a masterpiece? Compose some music? Poetry? I mean, you name it...it can be anything.

I was going through some old books of mine while cleaning house and came upon a Megaman comic I drew back in the late 80's early 90's. Suddenly I remembered everything that went into the creation of this comic. I was so in love with Megaman 2 upon its release, that not only did I buy it, I came up with a comic book. The freaking thing is about 40 pages long, so I guess I must have been either crazy or just plain bored. Kids in my school would borrow the comic early in the day and pass it around school to see how far I had worked into it and returned it at the end of the day. Brought back memories.

Classic arcade game sounds are burned into my brain.

There was always music playing in the arcades

and I would tap the buttons and *sequence*

the sound effects from the game

to the beat of the music.

I have incorporated that concept into

    creating video game remixes.

I would have never produced any game music

I remember being inspired to read up on WWII because of Battle over Britain and getting interested in the Civil War because of an old Antietam game by SSI. Other than that, I don't think games ever inspired me to do more than buy more games.

Zelda: Majora's Mask. The Bombers Secret Society of Justice inspired me to want to make a site all about doing good things for people (I still haven't actually done it, but I'm working on it).

Various RPGs have built up my vocabulary, and I'm starting to learn C++ to help my childhood dream of making my own games.

    So I guess you could say I've been a little influenced ^_^;

Back when I was really into modding my Xbox, I learned a lot about FTP, iso, bit torrents, and other programs that I cant think of right now. It was pretty interesting. Now I have that knowledge if I ever need it again.

Video games have certainly inspired me to write and record some music. I'll see if I can dig up some wav files and make some mp3s.

This is actually ripped from this thread
    Here is mine.

I'm not real sure of the year but it was just as the Atari Crash was starting.

We were fairly well off, better than most, as my step-dad was an officer in the Air Force. Well things weren't perfect with them and they divorced just after christmas.

    So from riches to rags.

We really struggled to make ends meet through that year and as christmas rolled around again we had no money for gifts. We had a small plastic tree, a few decorations and no lights. Mom and I went to the grocery store to pick up a couple of tv dinners for christmas day and a few other items. Well they just happened to be having a blow out sale Atari carts. Everything was $5.00. I knew things were tight so I just looked while she shopped. Being Christmas Eve people were grabbing games faster than you would believe, I watched them all fly by. I noticed a single Miner 2049'er that people just passed up and I really wanted it. We just didn't have the money.

We left and headed home. Once at home I guess my mom started to feel bad about not having anything for me for christmas and asked if there was a game that I saw that I wanted.

"Yes", I said, "but we don't have the money".

She, didn't say much more for awhile.

About an hour later she told me to get my coat on we forgot something at the store.

You can guess the rest, with a slight twist at the end. Miner 2049'er was not there. Instead I got Fathom and I played that game for days on end until I finally beat it. I don't know exactly what it was but that game, it was a turning point in my life. It led to computers and to the games there and many steps later to a career with computers today. I also run fan sites for games from time to time, when one catches my attention. The last one was Planet Dungeon Siege.

Rob Fulop, if you read this, I know you didn't care for Fathom. Just know that your game made a significant impact on at least one person. Enough of an effect, to point a child in the direction of his future.

So my quest, my holy grail, is a mint, sealed Fathom, which I hope to have signed by Rob. I refuse to buy a loose Fathom cart, till I get one...

Silent Hill inspired me to write a screenplay. Well, I actually co-wrote with my friend Mike. Originally, I just wanted a film that was set in an "old" spooky deserted town. There would be crazy stuff going on and, a mystery to solve as to why the town loved to torture visitors. After 1,034 revisions, the only thing that resembles the original story is there's a town. I hope to see the story come to life one day. When that happens, I'll never forget who gave me the inspiration.

The series of short stories I wrote were more-or-less based in an RPG setting, since the characters could check their stats/change equipment ect.

Don't know if it's succeeded or not you bastards.

The "Type till you Bleed" PC games of the 80s and early 90s made me want to be a better speller.

    They didn't succede.

After I beat Grandia I was inspired to start drawing again and did a few fanart pics because of it. Shame I don't have a scanner or digital camera or else I would post them.

When I was a kid, I used to think I wanted to be a writer. I hadn't done much of it for quite a while. Then I suddenly got a compunction, possibly originating from a malevolent servant of the underworld, to write some Metal Gear fanfiction. SOme of the results are weird and some are just plain stupid, but it's kinda nice to have things down on paper instead of just rattling around in my head.

Okay, now that you've read those and never want to speak to me again, games have also inspired me to do things that aren't abominations in the sight of any major deities. Like lately, I've been printing out sheet music and trying to play some things on the piano, though I thought I'd given that up ages ago. By the way, have you ever played Dancing Mad all the way through when you have to check every chord and carefully place each finger? It takes a long time.

I'm inspired by video games a lot, actually. For some reason, participating in a good story on a regular basis just makes the creative portions of my brain wake up a little.

I definitely have...after playing video game masterpieces like Chrono Trigger and Earthbound, I felt inspired to someday create my own masterpiece. I've come up with many, many ideas and I'm always writing them down and working on new ideas in my head. I swear I'll someday make this dream game of mine a reality...and you'd all better buy it!

*pokes own eyes out at the words "MGS" and "slash" used together*

    *ahem* anyway....

I used to doodle like crazy until, oh, I graduated high school. For almost all of elementary school, every damn doodle I drew was video game-related. It pissed my dad off.

I've made and continue to make remixes of video game music, much like the Fox up there.

Also know how to play some VG music on the guitar. I can still play the themes of Edgar, Cyan and Setzer from FF3, and I've forgotten how to play the Veldt theme, Phantom Train, Kefka's theme, the Ghosts & Goblins theme, random Metroid music, and lots more.
