Why are hemmorhoids called hemmorhoids and asteroids called asteroids? Wouldn't it make more sense if it was the other way around?

Selling collection, Atari through XBox. Send a PM with whatever games you're looking for.
Can't beat the original coin-op innovation. Too bad they're so hard to find and that vector monitors have gone the way of the Dodo as mame can never of course fully replicate the display 100%. (the shots end up looking like tiny little pale pellets)
What's the N64 Asteroids like?
My Gaming Collection (Now at Google Drive!)
I would vote for Rockaroids on the Vectrex, but it's not on the list!
Vectrex Mine Storm is my favorite "Asteroids type" game.

Not fair that you can't vote for two; Asteroids Deluxe and Blasteroids both rock!
Hey, there's a pun in that last statement :P
*cue audience groan track*
I voted for the original. Can't beat the real thing.
Although I did play 2600 Atari like all the time when I was three.
Space Duel is probably my favorite, just totally addictive especially when you're shackled up to someone else's spaceship, pure two-player madness. I think it's pretty good as a one-player game, too.
Probably the one I've played most, though, would be either Mine Storm for the Vectrex (played that for ages before I got a multicart) or Maelstrom for Macintosh, especially the sonically altered versions my college friends made with ResEdit...
Asteroids Deluxe
So Asteroids... I just got done playing a marathon session on the 2600. What am I doing right? I had to switch it off after getting a little bored with it. I turned it off at 219,000 with 9 lives. I had difficulty set to B, and it never seemed to get harder.
I went over to Twin Galaxies and saw that put me at #6 on the records. Why didn't the game get harder? Is it just an endurance test?
Anyone else experience this on the 2600? The #1 is 10 million something, which must have taken hours to complete.
Blasteroids, please.
A few weeks ago I bought Asteroids for the Playstation, but just got around to playing it yesterday. I really don't like it as much as the 2600 version. While it looks great, the loading times and save screens really bog the game down. After a game over, you can't immediately begin playing the game, which is annoying. The added controls and shiny graphics really detract from the simplicity of the original game. Anyway, just thought I'd share.
I gotta say Asteroids Deluxe, but I'm a bit biased since that's one of the machines in my garage.
The 7800 version with the starplex controller is the best. Get two starplex controllers and you are set for some great 2-player action. The starplex controller makes some games so much better, games like Gravitar & Space Invaders, it's a must own.
How can people vote for the 2600 version over the 7800 version? They must not own the 7800?

I just won't let this one die.
I know it's been a while, but I now have a reason to answer this. I got an Asteroids a few months ago, and finally got it fixed last week. It is quite a bit harder than the VCS version. In the week or so I've been playing the game, I've racked up a measly 24k as a high. I'm getting the hang of it slowly, and 3 of my highest scores all came from today. It's great having the Braze HS saver kit- and the fact that it'll count rollovers is great too if I ever get good at it.
There's a local game store that has Asteroids Deluxe for sale, and before getting mine this is the only version I had played (2 or 3 short games). The black light effect is cool, and I can't decide if I like AD or Asteroids better.
Agreed. The bright pulsing bullets aren't something you can replicate on any other monitor. It sounds unusual that such a small detail that has no effect on the gameplay really adds a lot to the game. It is an interesting choice by Atari that they chose to use a vector monitor, when the game really didn't need one. Maybe they figured they needed to give it some sort of added gimmick to make it more appealing?
Why I like Asteroids I can't quite say. It's really the most primitive game (outside of Berzerk) I enjoy playing- and the only Black and White game I like.
