Cool find. I also have a 'modified' combat cart like that. Although yours seems to have a switch (left side) that mine is missing. Too bad i don't have any ROMs lying around so i have never been able to try it out. Supposedly it is some little piece of hardware cooked up by an Atari engineer used for in-house testing of games. If you ever find any more info about it let me know

That looks like a ghetto dev setup -- write the code on the EPROMs and stick 'em in that socket, then try the code out on the hardware. There could very well be prototype data on those EPROMs, assuming they've not erased themselves... Whatever they are, I'd personally recommend having them dumped just as a precaution -- and I'm probably not the only one...

I saw something like this at a flea market years ago, and it had tons of roms (?) with it. I didn't know what it was, and they wanted the unseemly price of $20 for it. All the roms were labelled too.

EPROMS instead of EEPROMS. Keep em away from black lights.

There are a number of EPROM related items on ebay that would read those. And write new ones.

This stuff is such a lost era in electronics. I mean who goes to radio shack anymore to buy resistors or capacitors. Or thought of the function of a single transistor...

I have one of those as well, but mine is in a Fishing Derby cart. I thought that it was just an old fashioned means of pirating games. The one ROM I have that came with it unfortunately doesn't work (presumably it was erased because there is no sticker over the window).

Mine also has a little switch on it that turns on a red light when it's plugged in to an Atari. No idea what that's for.
