Default Need Help On Purchasing Wireless Router For Xbox

    I have a small probem.

First, I have a cable internet connection.

I need to figure out a way to share my internet connection with my xbox. I have a computer downstairs, and the xbox is upstairs. If I went through my roomates celing where the computer and modem is I would be about 15 feet from the modem to the xbox. However, if I take the stairs, It is probebly more like 50 feet.

So what I need is for someone to point out a good wireless router that will hopefully keep me from lagging when playing xbox. I have also heard that I may need a station or something. Don't really know wht thet is. All I know is it somehow leads the internet connection upstairs to my room.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I really know nothing about routers and such.

There are already quite a few threads o this in the forum if you do a search. Basically, you need a wireless router and a wireless bridge. The bridge connects to the XBOX with an ethernet cord and to the router wirelessly.

The linskys brand wireless b router works really well. I have it connected to my PS2, even though it is in the same room as my computer.

anyway, that should work out well. Just takes a while to set up.

You will need a wireless router, and a wireless b adapter. It will cost about 120 to set it all up.

    I just picked up a 54 mbps gigafast router at newegg.com for $27 with a $20 rebate.

And they have access bridges too for under $50.

One I found off of pricewatch.com was only $36

That's an awesome deal - is justdeals.com pretty reputable?

I wish I knew that before I spent 120 dollars on what I have. I could have gotten an x box, or a sweet dreamcast lot.

To get my Xbox up and running on live without lag?

Also, say I have a computer and 1 xbox downstairs, and 1 xbox up stairs, would there be any more adaptors I may need to get all three things running at once?

Or could I go ahead and leave the downstairs computer and xbox hooked up still using the ethernet cable I use?

I have 2 ethernet cables, one from the pc, and one from the xbox. Usually I just switch the cords in the back of the modem to get my internet or live access. Which is just fine by me if I still have to do that. All I really care about is getting all the xbox systems and pc all running. I don't care If I have to switch some cords. I just don't want to run a cable all the way upstairs.

I guess what I am getting at here is if I need 3 of these bridge things?
