Default I got this Japanese Megadrive game, is it "rare"?

My wife came home with a couple of bags full of video games again.

    Inlcuding some Discworld 1 & 2's

and also, what I think is a Japanese import game, believe it or not I have not much experience of import games (last year I bought a familcone, and didnt know what it was and had to ask you guys).

Anyway, this was in the bag of goodies

it doesn't fit in my Megadrive (UK). any idea if it's worth putting on eBayu with anything other than the usual one pound starting price?

I would sell the game for no more then the$20 to $30 range because it's a common game to find on ebay. It's called devil's crush on tg-16 but on genisis, it's called Dragon's fury. Both games are the same except, they have different names and they are on different systems.

Once again, the import version box art is gorgeous while the US version is "utilitarian".

I don't have the Mega-Drive version of the game, how about a trade? It's worth in the neighborhood of $25 (as hamburglar stated), but I can't use it if it's PAL. Should say NTSC or "Made in Japan" somewhere on the box.

    Nice find... Let me know!

It says Made in Japan on the back of the cart, and you may just be able to make the same phrase out on the bottom right hand corner of the 1st photo.

There are no instructions with this game.

Did someone here not know that? I think the confusion is when you buy a Mega-Drive game... it could be PAL OR NTSC depending on where the game was manufactured. Kind of like Atari 2600 cartridges. At least when it says GENESIS on it you know it's NTSC.

I have to disagree about the box art. I'm looking at the Japanese artwork and it's plain, silly, and kind of slapped together. The American art wasn't terrific either but at least it has some detail.

Seriously?! That's a new one. I thought Genesis was a North American thing and Mega-Drive was everywhere else? Is your GENESIS console PAL compatible?! That's WILD. Now I gotta find me one!

I've read online that the early Genny/Mega games (up til around '91 or so) were compatible with all regions except for shape of the cart. Afterwards, there were terriorial lockouts implemented, which one of those Super Mega Key converters overrides. Or something to that effect...

Without any kind of converter? I own a few Euro Mega-Drive games and they have a different cartridge design than the Genny carts, and will not fit in MY Genesis. They do, however, fit into my Laseractive Sega module. Can you throw a few of those titles by me? I'd like to test out on this end. Thanks for the info!

Do you have an original Genny model? If so, that would explain why the carts wont fit with a converter. I've read in a Genny faq file that Genny III's cart slot is roomy enough to pop in a MD game....

hmmm, as far as i know, UK mega drive carts won't work on a genny alone- there are quite a few that are exactly the same shape as u.s. carts, but pop them in, and you'll either see nothing, or get a screen that says "this game formatted for PAL/SECAM systems only", or something like that.

anyway, the tiny amount of pal carts i own (listed below) all fit into both my genesis systems and my cdx, but they won't run without a converter of some sort.

@Geelw: are those GENESIS PAL games or MEGA-DRIVE PAL games? What I've personally never seen before are GENESIS PAL games, which as claimed above exist.

The "fitting them into the slot" is just a small piece of the puzzle. What I had thought was that the Genesis hardware BIOS had a lock-out to prevent PAL or SECAM Mega-Drive games from being played on them, yet I've never had a problem with Japanese (NTSC) Mega-Drive games using a converter.

I must have sold some GENESIS carts, I could only find 3 so the %ages I quoted were wrong, but never scientific anyway.

    Just tested them in a MK 1 megadrive identical to this one;
    http://homepage.ntlworld.com/thx1138.../MEGADRIVE.JPG

    The ones I tried were;

    CYBORG JUSTICE

    ETERNAL CHAMPIONS

BULLS vs BLAZERS & THE NBA PLAYOFFS

Cyborg Justice & Eternal Champions both state for use on an NTSC system only. Bulls v Blazers says 'assembled in the USA'.

Cyborg Justice worked first time on a UK/PAL megadrive on an old tv set that does not switch to an NTSC input setting.

Eternal Champions displayed a message saying 'for use with NTSC consoles only' and would not work

Bulls v Blazers did not load in at all.

so not scientific, but a 33% success rate there.

O.k that Genny cart I was talking about is Cal Ripken Jr. Baseball.
1992. On the back it has a lot of Patent numbers ( pending) from
    almost everywhere exept Australia.
It was made in japan, but unless Australian Megadrive's are Region
free and can play NTSC carts its an Australian PAL cart. (coulors are correct)
And like I said before, Its a megadrive cart and it has a Genisis logo on the
    box and cart.

This is the part where a scanner or Digital camera would help
Hopefully you know what I'm talking about, but I'll search for some pics
    and info anyway

Some Genesis/Megadrive games have the same chipset or board inside them. Only the outer case/label are different. The game will detect what system its being played on and adjust accordingly. For instance I got the Jpn Megadrive game FZ Senki Axis(Final Zone) When I put it in my Genesis(modded to play Jpn and PAL games) and turn it on it automatically displays it as Final Zone. When I hit the switch from US to Jpn it displays the game in Japanese. When I boot it up in PAL mode it displays it as Final Zone but with a distorted screen. My Jpn Megadrive Herzog Zwei works the same way. Its kinda cool to have the Jpn version because alot of time the box art is so much better. Hey Geelw did you ever play your ShadowRun MegaCD yet?
