    Default Miner 2049er

Has anyone played the B&W Gameboy version of this classic?

OH MY GOD it is IMPOSSIBLE.

It took me at least 10 tries to make it past the first screen. There's no saves, no passwords, no nothing.

I was really looking forward to playing this game on the classis GameBoy... I had no idea it even existed until a few weeks ago.

I played the crap out of the Atari 5200 version, and I managed to make it all the way through. With the shite 5200 controller no less. Me and a friend got so good we would write dirty things with out with our initials on the high score screen.

This GB game is kicking my ass, even when played on TV on the Super Gameboy.

    Ack!

That is one of the more frustrating games I've every played. I have it on the coloco, it still kicks my ass from time to time.

Ya, I picked this one up not to long ago. I was thinking it was another game (which I now think is Dig Dug....) but jeeze, this one is hard. I can hardly make it past the first screen as well. Its one the hardest games I've played on GB.
I collect Game Boy games and Systems. Currently looking for any R4 or R6 GB games (and a select few R5) available. PM if you got something.

    Default Platformers

    Hmm

You know back when those old platformers came out it wasn't uncommon to take a few days to figure out how to get to the next screen. Games like loderunner that had 50+ screens did not focus so much on a single levels difficulty.

I remember bounty bob taking several weeks to finally get up to the last screen. There was definitly something satisfying about that 20 years ago but today who would still do that?

    You have a point.

The old games on the 2600, 5200, CV, et all didn't have saves or paswords either. Old games like 2049er required memorization and SKILL to complete. I forgot that!

This game is still hard as hell, though.

    Cheers

I just picked one up a few days ago after noticing I unloaded mine a number of years ago. After turning it on I remembered why. Personally, I think it looks like crap to the point that I haven't taken the time to see how hard it is.

The original post was about the B&W Gameboy version, which is why I didn't specify.

Is the GB version any good at all? I have been meaning to try to find it sooner or later and details would be cool.
If they made a movie out of your top five worst sins, what would it be rated?

Well, it's certainly CHALLENGING for sure.

I tried to find some pics to show, but no dice.

It maintains the classic Miner 2049er look with the basic levels intact (what few levels I've reached... 3 in all!) but some cuts had to made (obviously) from the console versions to make it work on the Gameboy.

I've only played the 5200 version (a lot!) but that was WAY back in the day... like when the 5200 was a current console! The 5200 game was also very challenging but not impossible (I beat it with the shite 5200 controllers) but I think the GB version beats it in difficulty.

The screen is longer and narrower... obviously. You can't see the whole screen at once, either... it scrolls up and down. Annoying, but a necessary evil.

It controls pretty well (on the Super Game Boy, at least) and jumping is precise in that "get it right or fly over the edge" sort of way but it's not quite as responsive as I remember the 5200 version to be.

The sound effects are icky, but that the GB for you.

I still haven't passed (my) judgement of this version yet... I'll let you know after I play it more!

    Cheers

    Here are some pics:

I haven't played the GB version myself but those cramped screenshots don't look so good.
