Default Wanted: Episodes of Starcade on VHS video

    Hey gang,

I'm desperately looking for episodes of Starcade to watch. I know someone out there has to have a tape full of episodes. At least someone's gotta be taping them off of G4. Anyway, if you can help me out, I can pay cash or trade for something you may be looking for. Post here or PM me. Let's deal.

Jesus, talk about making it difficult. I thought maybe I could just set my VCR for the same time very day or something...What kind of screwed-up schedule is this????

    http://www.g4tv.com/html/showinfo.as...pisode_key=356

Well, I'll try and tape you a bunch, but I gotta admit that if I can't just set it and forget it, this is going to take a while!

I've got a tape full of them - but they're from the original run of the show and the quality is pretty bad.

I'd really like to get taped episodes as well. So if anyone's doing this, please count me in too. I'll be happy to pay for your efforts.

I HAVE seen episodes appear in the newsgroups, and they could be converted to VCD fairly easily, but that's pretty time consuming. I'm gonna give one a shot today just while I'm thinking about it...

Well I've got it set up to tape this weekend's 4 episodes. And stop talking about paying for them, that's silly, its not a big deal to tape them, it'll just take a while to get a tape full of them. The problem with digital cable is that you can't watch something else while taping, you have to have it tuned to whatever station you're taping. I couldn't believe it when the cable guy told me that. And it's true! Doesn't that blow? However, it doesn't matter to me, I hardly watch TV anyway (TVs are for games, not TV shows, unless its a TV show about games ), so I'll just set up the VCR timer and leave the cable tuned to G4. However, I only have 1 vcr, so somebody else is going to have to make the copies. Regarding quality, I'm taping on slow play, to be able to fit 10 or 12 eps per tape. Hope that's not a problem. Otherwise, I'll be going thru only 4 eps per tape!

Hey cool, you guys let me know if you still want 'em taped.

In an aside, is there any program out there that can allow you to burn avi or mpg files to a cd to play it on a DVD player? I doubt it, eh?

Of course. You can encode it and convert to vcd (or svcd), then play it on your DVD player all ya want I think Nero allows you to do it, but there are more specialized programs for the task.. of which names I forget (since I don't do it much). But it's doable.. and easy. Trust me.

Really? No kidding. I figured it would be tough to do or freaking everybody would be downloading videos and watching them on their TV's, and the DVD makers would be up in arms about it. I haven't bothered with downloading video files because I don't want to sit and watch them on my computer, I only watch stuff downstairs on the TV. Do you need a special DVD player?

Hey NE146... got those on an FTP somewhere? Nero does a pretty good job converting AVI to VCD's (I tested it earlier)! Gimme gimme gimme....

Really, I scoured the newsgroups and Kazaa today but no trace of 'em. Funny thing is that I was bumping into them left and right about a week ago and figured "ah, I'll get 'em later". Silly me.

Everyone IS downloading videos and watching them on their TV's You don't need a "special" DVD player, but you need one that can play VCD's. Or you can watch on a CD-i. The latest version of Nero even lets you build a thumbnail based menu for navigation, it's really cool stuff.

    Gimme gimme gimme

    Nero is gold!

I've used it to put some stuff from tape onto VCD. I did buy a DVD-R to see if i could do anything with Nero. but Nero only converts these odd formats to work with burning a DVD. I still haven't figured it out.
My life and perception has changed, but my principals are the same.

If you end up getting these to play on DVD and don't mind making me a copy I will certainly pay you for you time/efforts. My brother and I use to watch Starcade religously when we were kids, it would breing back some terrific old gaming memories.

    Default Starcade

Maybe if the video is decent quality... I can possibly make dvd copies of the eps. If someone can send me the avi's somehow, i should be able to figure out how to archive it onto a dvd-r.

I would like to get those eps on avi...

I'm willing to do my part here - the best I can do with what I have is to convert NE146's AVI files to VCD format. I've successfully done this, and can put three episodes on each VCD. The quality is pretty good, I'd imagine not too much different than the "master tape". The captures I've seen seem digital in nature, I haven't seen any of that tape artifacting you typically see on old shows (like that rainbow fade in/out).

How many episodes could you fit on a DVD?

Sadly, I do not own a DVD player. (I do own a PS2, but that hardly counts in this case.) Still hoping for VHS copies.

    For trade, I have
    - Stella at 20 - Vol. 1 and 2
    - Videos of CGE 2K1 and 2K2 (Good stuff if you couldn't make it in person)
    - A few Automan episodes
    - The laserdisc game archive, including Dragon's Lair I and II, Space Ace, Cobra Command
    - Videogame Commerical Archive Vol. II
    - Other collectible cartoon-type stuff, including Thundarr the Barbarian, the entire 60's Spider-Man run, Wizards and Warriors (live action, all aired episodes), Dungeons and Dragons (a dozen or so cartoon episodes), live-action The Tick (all aired episodes), God, the Devil, and Bob (all aired episodes), Clerks (all aired episodes), incredibly old MST3K episodes (first season of The Comedy Channel - before it was Comedy Central - as well as one episode from the original public access run in Minneapolis).

Anyone help me out? I'm a-beggin'!

Is there some sort of program that Joe could use to convert the AVI's to a DVD format ? or is a special burner needed for that?

    any experts out there?
