Default Do You Play Your New Acquisitions Right Away?

Or do you often take your time playing new games for one reason or another? I've gotten 4 new games in the last week to 10 days...Outlaw Golf: 9 Holes of Christmas, Lego Star Wars, Doom 3 and Resident Evil 4...but haven't unwrapped a single one of them because I want to consider them birthday gifts to myself so I won't play them until then, which is a week from tomorrow. In fact, I just realized I also haven't played Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and I've had that since January or February...so that's 5 games I still need to play in the near future...

For new games, yes...for old games, it's usually easier to continue emulating them.

Same here. I have a pretty small room, and it's a hell of a lot of hassle getting behind my TV to plug in all the wires for any of the games I get for older consoles.

I open and play a little of every game I get. If I like it I put it in front of the list of games to play, if I dont, it goes in the list of games I'll get around to playing when I'm not playing anything.

I usually at least test them out, unless I bought them because they were rare and are actually crappy games

It realy depends on if I have the system handy and also have the time. These days I try to play every game I get atleast half an hour to see if I will like it. The sad part is there are around 50 PS1 games I have yet to play.

I do that, although usually I play it for 5 minutes, and never go back to it. :/

Usually if I get an older used classic game I usually go at it right away but with new current stuff I still have stuff unopened as I havent got around to it.

I will if it's something I've wanted and/or I've spent more than I usually do on games. Carts have to be cleaned first (in fact, I have a bunch of carts that I've gotten over the past couple months that I haven't gotten around to cleaning yet). I don't mind letting most of the current-gen games I've bought on the cheap sit around a while.

It depends. I'll usually try out old stuff right away, but the newer stuff waits until I'm 100% ready to put some real time into it.

Sad as it is to say, most new games sit around for up to 2+ years before I get around to playing them. I have a rather large stack right now that I have not gotten to yet.

Same here, I have at least that many that I haven't played. Some I'll probably never play. Too many games, too little time.

For brand new games I usually get around to them fairly quickly. For anything used, never. For instance, I bought Growlanser Generations, Resident Evil 4, and Suikoden IV within 5 days of eachother, and the only one I've played (and subsequently beaten) is RE4. Right now I'm STILL in the middle of Doom 3, and I've since purchased and beat Xenosaga 2 and right now am playing through God of War.

I'm on the lookout for a bunch of games still, mostly newer RPGs which I'm sure I'll find used, most notably Shin Megami everything. If I do find them, I'll buy them and put them in the stash and Suikoden IV is absolutely next in line after I finish God of War, simply because I bought it new.

Well, I guess you could say I play the ones I buy brand new (full price) get played first because I wanted them bad enough to pay the full ticket.

I always test games right away to make sure they work, but unless it's a short action/platform game, I'll put it away until I have time to delve into it.

Ditto. The first thing I do when I get home is clean the games. If there are stickers, they get a Goo Gone treatment. If the games are cart based, they always get a q-tip and isopropyl alcohol rubbing. If they are CD's, I just whipe the smudges and finger prints off with a soft, damp cloth. But after that, I always test the games. As long as they work, many will get stored away and wait a couple of months before they get a playthrough.

I make it a point to test almost everything I get right away. The only reasons that I wouldn't would be if some random problem or task comes up and I get sidetracked. For NES games, I keep trying them until the screen stops flashing light blue or green and they work. For more recent games, I know that, unless some lamentable factory error was committed, they'll be alright if I buy them new, so I can be a bit more patient with them. Summing it all up, the urgency to play is raised with the age of the game.
