Chipped gamecube disk

okay, to make a long story short, i have a super monkey ball game with a little chip in the edge of the disc. the chip does'nt appear to be affecting the shiny part with data on it, but whenever i try to play it, it gives me an error message and tells me to turn of the gamecube. is the disc ruined, or is it just unbalanced or something?

Can you see any good scratches/indentions from the side of the disk or from the top of the disk? If so, there is a chance of the game being broken. If there are any good scratches on the top of the disk, then the game is most likely ruined, as the data in a disk is actually closer to the top of the disk, the side that has the lable, than the underside, the shiny part, that is why it is much more dangerious to scratch the top of a disk compared to the bottom.

Oh well, I don't really know of much good advice that I can give you. I hope that you can get you Super Monkey Nuts..Uh.. I mean Balls...er...Ball...yah... Super Monkey Ball working again.

If it wasn't affecting the data area (shiny) of the disk, id say it might be a balancing issue. Sometimes if you put a sticky label, like the kind you can print from home, if its off by just a little bit, the disk wont read properly.

I would try to throw it in a computer just to see if you could read the files from the disk. Unless those files on the disk have some sort of different file system that cant be read.

Well, it is DVD.....you'd have to have a DVD drive. Past that I'm not sure either.

If nothing else works I guess you could always stick sandpaper to it and grind down the sides all the way around....as long as you're VERY carefull. Can't hurt it if it doesn't work anyhow.

thanks for all you guys' help. i know the data part is on the label side, and yes, there is a little indent in the side. i've got a DVD-r drive, i'll try to put it in there to see if it wil read. i was thinking that if it is a balance issue, i could fill the crack in with some glue or something.
