    Default Controller help

    I got a RE 4 chainsaw controller and just my luck, it's not working properly. I ordered it from Gamestop.com and the controller is now on back order, so I'd rather not deal with the hassle of trying to get a replacement.

    Basically the R button is "stuck" in the on position. Like it's always acting like the button is pressed down, even though it's not physically stuck. I've tried several games and it's only that button that's the problem. It makes games that use the R button unplayable. I opened the controller up and could see nothing wrong inside...all the wires looked fine and the solder points looked good. However, I'm inexperienced with controller repair so there's something I could have easily overlooked.

    Does anyone have any advice on how to possibly fix this? I also wondered if the cable that goes from the controller to the Gamecube might be bad, but I have no idea where to get another cable like that.

    when you took the controller apart did it look something like this;

    (this is a genesis 6 button arcade stick).

    I'm wondering if your controller has the "X" looking shaped contacts, on top of these are little rubber thimbles with a small metal disk inside (when the button is pressed the rubber thimble compresses and the disk makes contact with the "X".

    I'm thinking that if the 'thimble' is compressing 'off centre' it could be jamming in place - and not coming back up, or releasing after a button press.

    whiich would make the controller think that the button is still being pressed.

    Can you post some pics of the inside, someone here could probably have a better idea of whats going on.

    Well, I fixed it, and the culprit turned out to be glue of all things. Let me explain....

    First, here's a shot of the inside of the controller:

    Next, a close up of the R button. I could find nothing that was making it "stick". I removed the rubber thimble and placed it back on there just to make sure though.

    This image is the underside of the R button. Where the black and white wires meet the board, there was a ton of hot glue. I thought I would try to re-solder the connections, so I first removed the hot glue. For grins I tried the controller again before I started soldering, and to my surprise it worked! So my conclusion is that somehow the glue was causing a bad connection. Weird!

    When are you going to learn to stop ordering stuff online?
