Default Shenmue II, differences between the xbox and dc version?

I'm looking to grab it and I was just wondering if there are any differences between the xbox and dreamcast releases. I'd rather play it on the dreamcast (as nature intended ) but if there isn't much difference I'll probably go with the xbox version just for the convienence of it, since I see new and used copies almost everywhere I go. Thanks for your help.

There isn't many differences at all, but the ones I know are...

Some signs and stuff from the original were cut from the Xbox version.

Same voice acting from Shenmue I

Maybe they increased the draw distance for people in the streets, too.

of course the biggest difference is that the xbox version comes with shenmue I the movie on dvd. so you can watch that thing in its entirity before heading on into the 2nd chapter.

Plus you can take photographs of things and save them to the Xbox's hard drive. I decided to take pictures of the many references to old Sega games as an extra diversion to keep the usual gameplay from getting too boring.

    It didn't help much...

you're all forgetting the biggest difference: The Xbox version has English voices whilst the Dreamcast has Japanese. The xbox has a little snpshot feature where you can take pictures in-game. If you collect pictures of characters you unlock bonus comics and artwork. You can also have a filter on the view in the xbox version, ie. shenmue2dreamcast(bright), shenmie1dreamcast(dull), balck and white and finally sepia.
The xbox version deals better without the slowdown and ghosting in of people in the dreamcast version. There is annoying motion blur in fights though. The site mentioned in a previous post shows how the dreamcast version has more transparencies. Basically the main difference you want to consider is whetter you want japanese or english voices

I really wanted to play this bad-boy on my DC. I bought it too, but then also saw the Xbox version for $20 sealed - the fact that it comes with Shenmue: The Movie is the real seller - though I really can't see why anyone would bother playing through Shenmue II unless they were sucked in by the original Shenmue, as I was.

Many people don't like it, but I love the voice acting in the Shenmue series and Shenmue II did not disapoint.

It's my one and ONLY Xbox game. :P

    Default !

I have the DC version and my best friend has the X-Box version, so I decided to play the X-Box version this morning and compare it to what I remember about the DC version.

For some reason, I don't care for the English of the X-Box version. Don't know why... I just like the original Japaese better. It is set all in Japan... maybe that's why.

I DO like the fact that the people on the X-Box don't fade in nearly as much as the DC game... that ghosting in of people really didn't help the mood ofthe first one at all. I mean, the Dc game was so immersive, making you feel like you were in a living, virtual world... and then a ladt pops up right next to you and ruins the whole effect.
Thanks for indulging my gaming habit when I was young, Dad. You were the best. I miss you. ~David Barnes 1926-2007~

It's amazing how far behind anime the game market is when it comes to editing / not providing native language support. A choice between sub or dub is all but standard for anime DVD releases, except for the most butchered/americanized shows (hi 4kids entertainment). I know its more complicated to provide the feature for games but I'm sure it could be done with most games.

Actually most of Shenmue II takes place in Hong Kong.

Promophile: Indeed, voice options should be standard. Honestly, I hate that a JP game would BARELY make it over it as it is most the time, and then they waste all this time and money making the game unplayable by giving it shit voiceover. Arg.

I personal prefrer the dc-version as I think Japanese better fits the game then English, but for me that's like alot of things. I watch Anime also in Japanese when there are subtitles available, so maybe thatīs just me. Although I know more people iN Europe who always prefer Japanese in eastern themed games-movies above English, maybe itīs because they donīt have English as native language.

If you wanted to base it on cover art, the DC version wins hands down. I only have the DC PAL version, which took a nominal amount of patience and cash to obtain. I'll eventually get the X-Box one, but more or less for the DVD.

Yeah, i got the xbox one for the DVD, i don't even have an xbox!

The English voices on the Xbox version adds some extra comedic value like in the first one and also brings up memories of the first one - I see...
