Default Final Fantasy Origins vs. Final Fantasy Dawn of Souls

I want to get one of these remakes, but I am unsure of which to buy. Which of these is the better version? Are there any fundamental differences that makes one game better than the other? Any responses are appreciated.

Well, there's actually a longer quest in FF I+II (especially where FF II is concerned) than in Origins. I had FF Origins and I gave it to my best friend after I got I+II.

I would get Dawn of Souls for these reasons:

    1. No loading times.
    2. Bestiary list (fun keeping track of what enemies you kill )
    3. Extra dungeons in FF1
    4. Extra side quest in FF2
    5. Portable!

I'll say Dawn of Souls too. It might just be me, but it seems to be a lot easier than Origins, which is a lot easier than the original game(s). The extra dungeons, portability, slightly more improved graphics, and beastiary make it the better version IMHO. If you have a GBA player for your GC you can even play it on your TV - then Origins has -nothing- on it.

Definitely Dawn of Souls on GBA. Simply because you don't have to deal with the annoying 10% hit ratio in the beginning of FF1. I HATE missing all the time in the original! How hard can it be to hit a friggin 8-bit non-animated monster!?

    *ahem*
So yeah... get the GBA one... so you don't have to waste all kinds of time missing the monsters in battle!

    Oh, forgot to mention.

    Get Origins...

Playing Dawn of Souls is like playing Origins with ALL of the "easy" options turned on... the thing isn't even a game anymore, it's so ridiculously easy it's disgusting. Origins at least gives you the OTIONS of things like doing away with the original menu system, doing away with the original inventory system, easing up the rules on when you can cast Life, etc.

DoS's extra dungeons are utterly pointless as well. You can handle the random encounters as soon as you are able to go to them, but you can't handle the bosses until you are near beating the game. Oh and since you can't LEAVE until you either die or kill a boss (There's 4 bosses in each, and you have to go through it 4 times to kill all 4 bosses...) what's the point?

DoS was a joke, IMO. Ridiculously easy and completely out of the spirit of the original. The only real advantage it has over Origins is the load times.

Dawn Of Souls. Extra quests, items, and monsters, plus it's portable.

    I forgot about that.

Well, for me I'd go with DoS. I have FF1 on NES if I want to play it the classic way. But yea, FF1 was made way too easy on DoS.

I'll agree with what Fantasia said for the most part. I thought origins on hard mode was way too easy. DoS was VERY easy. I didn't have to spend any time levelling or even TRYING at all. I wish ALL RPG's came with a hard mode honestly, they're just getting silly these days.

Origins has a couple of FMV videos if that means anything to you.

Coming from a guy who has both, everyone has touched on the valid point here.

Dawn of Souls is really easy, I beat both parts in record time (maybe 2 weeks of light play).

Dawn of Souls also has all the features listed above: 4 extra caves (FF1), new side quest (FF2), portable, and no load times.

As said above, both games have their ups and downs. I've just played Dawn Of Souls and even if it is very easy I can say it's a fun game. I would advise you to get both if you can find them for cheap! The extra dungeons on Dawn Of Souls are nice but the difficulty level doesn't make them very challenging. If you don't want to get both then I'd go for Dawn Of Souls. Mainly because it's portable and you are able to save anywhere. I took my GBA to work and anywhere else so I could finish FF I in about 2 weeks, I don't have that much gaming time when I'm at home so this is a valid point for me.

I finished FFI on DoS by holding down the A-button during almost every single fight... and that's with one of the weakest parties (ONE of, not the) imaginable- 2 red mages and 2 thieves. I also killed most of the major bosses in 2 rounds, and some of them even just in 1.

Huh, that really sounds terrible easy, maybe you've leveled up too much? I mean I didn't have problems to beat the bosses but it sure took more than one hit to kill them. What was more frustrating is that I had the max. amount of money so I could buy 99 ether, 99 hi-potion and so on. Like this it was easy to beat the bosses and complete the extra dungeons.

I'm going to bump this topic, as I am now considering a purchase between these two. I am leaning more towards Dawn of Souls, despite the fact that it seems easier than Origins. I would like to hear a few more opinions on which one is the better game before I put money down.

Give yourself somewhat a challenege at least with Origins, with FF2 anyway.
