    Default Saturn Backup Cart?

How much should I expect to pay for one of these? My local store has one for $19, but am not sure if its the official one or not. Is that too much for either?

He's talking about the Memory Cart *Sega brand* I think

$19 is a pretty good price, you most definitely need one for later games, I know I had to buy one when I found out how much "Nights" took up my space on the internal RAM, back in the day.

Plus if you ever play Dragon Force, lord knows you will need it badly
These cartridges are dirty as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!

It's worth paying a few bucks more to get an official Sega memory cart. The official cart says "Sega Saturn backup" on it and has a Sega and Saturn logo on it. All of the third party ones for Saturn are horrible. $19 seems like a good price...I paid $20 for mine, I think.

    Default differences in bup carts

    Yo

One big difference with the official backup cart is that some games support direct save to the cart. All the third party carts require you to save to the internal memory and then transfer to the cart outside the game.

    $19 isn't bad.

Two thoughts. Despite all the horror stories, neither of my third party memory cards went bad. They both still work fine and have never given me any trouble *knock on wood*. As for the direct save thing, one of my cards (no brand listed) does allow direct saves.

$19 is a fair price. Worth it, IMHO.

    My 2 meseta:

I've heard stories that 3rd-party carts generally have thicker cards that bend the pins of your Saturn's cartridge port outward, eventually making it impossible for your Saturn to read the thinner, official memory carts.

I don't know if this is true or not. I've used a 3rd-party ST Key with my Saturns and not had any problem with reading my official Sega Saturn memory cart, but I don't leave the ST Key in all the time, either.
