Atari Flashback $16.88 at Target

I think the price was $16.88

It was on sale for 16 something. Maybe $16.99.


Anyways, not a bad price if you have been holding out for a big price drop before buying one of these.

I knew when I saw tons of these in the stores that eventually they would have to blown them out for pretty cheap. Still, even at this price I think I'll pass. If it had like 100 or 200 or the best 2600 games, then I would get it, but there are too many good 2600 games that are missing. And then there is the weird controllers.

When I see them being sold for $10, I will definiltey snag one.

Not to mention that it's actually an NES with remade clones of the games. In other words... they could have made it play Megaman 2 if they wanted.

The Flashback 2.0 on the other hand, will have actual 2600 hardware and will play the REAL games. Now THAT I'm looking forward to

But I guess at 16 bucks, it could make for a good boxed collectible to toss in the closet

It's a NES? Really? You would think somebody would be able to hack it and add a sometype of flash card thing to it with tons of NES roms. That would be sweet.

But then you would have the problems with the damn controllers again.

Do you own one Kaine? Are you speaking from personal experience? Have you played one? Do you even know how the games are supposed to play? Or are you just parroting popular sentiment and +1 posting yet again?

Not out of the box. Rumors are swirling that the Flashback 2.0 will be "mod-friendly" much like the C64 joystick was. Whether or not this turns out to be true remains to be seen.

Nope, but they don't want to deal with the customer service issues that arrise when people try plugging in 25 year old 2600 carts into it and wonder why they're not working after sitting in an attic for two decades.

Plus it would add another dollar or so to the price of the unit. That's a lot of this, there isn't a large profit margin on these I'd expect.

I'd buy the Flashback 2.0 if the cart slot was useable out-of-the-box... Too bad the 2.0 will use the original-style Atari joystick (a torture for the left-handed player that I am).

Getting back to the deal for the Flashback 1.0: if I saw it at that price, I would get it, even if it's not perfect and uses a NES chip instead of an actual 2600 chip in it.

The Target closest to my house no longer carried the Flashback. I guess they sold out. :/ I went to the nearest Walmart and they had them for $19.99. So, I bought one.

The unit was about half the size I expected it to be. So were the joysticks. :/ The small console size is actually kind of cool because it would be easy to hack the board into a different case. A Flashback hacked into a 7800 case would be cool.

And yes, you can tell right away that the system is using a different chipset. The sounds are different and the game play is different. The Flashback version of Asteroids is nothing like the 2600 or 7800 version of Asteroids. Adventure on the Flashback looks pretty good. I haven't checked to see if the Easter egg is there or not.

I'm glad I got the Flashback unit but I'm also glad I didn't pay $40 for it.

I'm pretty excited about it actually, assuming it still has Save Mary on it--which probably my favorite unreleased proto. The fact that Save Mary has a SARA chip on it, making it hard to repro doesn't hurt either.



It's funny, I'm a lefty too, but I play games and use computer mice like a right hander. The 2.0 should accept any vintage 2600 controller though so you could alway make a leftie stick

I ordered the Atari Flashback yesterday off Amazon.com for $14.44 (I'm pretty sure that was the price). It came to under $21.00 total with shipping and tax. Very cheap, and I look forward to getting it.

The Atari Flashback 2.0 has me really excited! I can't wait to pick it up when it launches this summer.
