Default Now THIS is virtual reality!!

I thought this was great. Basically they staged the whole thing. They set up a zombie style videogame in a pub and waited until someone played it. Somehow through light flashes they were able to hyptnotize the poor guy and well, you'll have to watch it to see what they did to him.

Warning, broadband is highly recommended, it's about a 20mb video.

The ultimate in videogames or the ultimate mind fuck. You Decide.

Edit: If you download the video via the link on the website and view it through a media player it's a lot larger and easier to see.

for thoe of you who dont know, that guy is Derren Brown, he has been quite popular in the UK for a while now. I was over there a few months ago and was introduced to him for the first time on his tv show. All the stuff he does is real, he also does live shows...now after the explanation..

Derren Brown is my hero I hadn't seen that video so that was awesome, i thought i had seen everything. No one knows him in the US, you can *cough* download *cough* some of his stuff, its amazing.

His friends sure seem to play along without asking many questions. Wouldn't they be worried when their friend passes out playing a game and then some stranger just walks up and grabs him? I don't believe it.

yeah that was... very very fake. So you guys believe that some computer programmer has developed a certain flash of light that will put 1/3 of the population into a trance?

It might also have something to do with the repeating hallways and the audio.

Still, no. I don't. Great video though.

by the way, what was the video game where you played a detective and hunted on the real-life internet? it was cancelled about halfway through the storyline because people were ruining the experience by putting up walkthroughs on the web, and it clashes with the "actual" websites you were supposed to comb through.

Okay... THAT was a blast! IF it were real, that has to be one of the coolest things I've ever seen. IF it was staged, I was still VERY entertained, so no harm done. Man, I wish that would happen to me (even though my biggest irrational fear is zombies).

I thought the idea was great but put in the doubters group. While I was watching it I was thinking the following:

    - If someone were to pass out in a pub/arcade there would be 50 people calling 911 on their cell phones immediately, probably more if strange people showed up with a stretcher to wheel them off.

    - For as high tech as the experiment was, the game itself seemed pretty low tech. If I were trying to be sneaky I'm sure I'd go wireless instead of stringing wires out of the machine and to a control room. Likewise, the game seemed pretty low tech as well.

    - The two friends seemed particularly passive and particularly quiet.

    - Ever been shot with a paintball gun? It hurts. If I were a zombie actor I would be really worried about getting shot in the face or on bare skin.

    - About 2 minutes after this show, that guy would have sued the shit out of this tv host.

yea - this thing is fake

to many factors against making it real -- that guy was an actor - ive seen other things about hypnotizing people with light flashes so im not doubting that part - just the whole execution of the experiment.

I'll suspend what rationality will tell me about whether or not that was staged or what -

    - In that light, that was VERY cool. I would have loved for that to happen to me. I'm sure I would freak out if it actually did, but oh boy, I really would like to have been put in that situation. Though, I think I would have tried out some jump kicks and stuff.

I'm still waiting for real VR. I'd like a suit with thousands of sensors on it, where you walk on a 360 degree treadmill so you have an unlimited size to your world right in your living room.

Man, imagine Halo in VR on that kind of setup. Attach some bungee wires to your self to simulate jumping really high, etc.

Watch the whole show boys, watch more of the darren brown shows, im certain its real. Everyone in the bar will have been informed about what was happening, as they let them put the machine there and use a backroom, the friends looked more shocked than anything, what do you expect them to say wen a camera crew jumps out of nowhere?
