I'm pretty sure that these were made by the same guy, and when he makes them he tears apart a normal system and uses all of those parts to make the portables. If I could remember his website I'd link to it, but alas it escapes me at the moment.
Check out my game collection!

Yeah, Ben Heckendorn makes them all by hand and uses all original components and boards. No system on a chip crap. Pretty sweet site.

You are wrong, with regards to the NES. He uses the crappiest NES-on-a-Chip, the one from the Super Joy:Originally Posted by doubledownon11

I wouldn't bother going through all of the effort if the end result used a crappy NES-on-a-Chip. I know he uses original circuit boards for his 2600, SNES, and other systems. But not NES.
If you want a portable Famicom, which can play NES games with an adapter, check out the new Pocketfami:

It is smaller than the NESp, and uses a slightly more accurate NoaC. However, note that it is still a crappy NoaC, so it doesn't have full game compatibility, accurate sound, or accurate video. But then again, the NESp is even worse.
Too bad Nintendo never made an official portable NES with an accurate NoaC inside.
That's a little surprising. If all of his others are real-deal components, why use the crappy on a chip for the NES? Weird.
While Heckendorn has made portable Nes's from the Nes on a chip, I think this is one of his full versions, made from a NES.
This system is hand built to last and thoroughly tested. It contains a 5" LCD screen and original Nintendo parts. It accepts the original Nintendo cartridges and plays them flawlessly. It is basically an original Nintendo is a small portable case. Batteries are rechargeable and included.
Well, the redesigned NES and Famicom might be smaller than the original, but they might not be small enough for a portable. They also might not be power efficient enough for a portable. Also, most people don't know how crappy NoaC's and NES emulators are because they have long since gotten rid of their real NES and games, so they have nothing to compare to. Though some games don't even work at all with these NoaCs and many emulators, so you've got to wonder what most people think when their game doesn't run.Originally Posted by doubledownon11

Of course, the Atari crowd is a bit more respectable, so they could notice the differences with their eyes closed. Yet that system still sold over 500,000 units! However, by popular demand, the Flashback 2.0 will use a supposedly accurate 2600-on-a-Chip (2oaC). There is nothing stopping it from being identical in accuracy to the real thing. If so, there is nothing wrong with systems on a chip.
But it has yet to be done for any system other than the GBC, which was successfully made into a system on a chip by Nintendo for their GBA systems. Further argument for why Nintendo needs to get off their butts and make official systems on a chip for all of their old consoles.
Of course you can play almost all the old games on a GBA and flashcart anyway.
I stand corrected. This is made using a real NES board:Originally Posted by ehall

Ok, this is definitely worth the money then. I just wish I had the spare money to buy it. Considering that all other portable Famicoms and NES systems use a crappy NoaC, this is literally a one of a kind system. The only thing cooler than a portable NES, are the portable 2600's that Ben makes. The wood grain finish adds a certain cool factor lacking in any other portable.
Dammit, I am seriously considering buying this... I just need to resist for another 2 days.
I want a portable Colecovision!
He made a PS2 portable around Christmastime last year, didn't he?They also might not be power efficient enough for a portable.
I have one of these and add a crappy screen to the list of negatives for it.Originally Posted by Jagasian

Definitely not worth it. Just get a DS and a GBA Flashcart.
hes got a book out with details and pictures on how to make lots of his systems
its sitting on my floor
i havent gotten around to making anything yet
The NES emulators for the GBA aren't the most accurate in the world, and they don't even nearly have complete game compatibility (Elite and many other fun games just aren't playable). Even popular games such as Super Mario Bros 3 have slight graphical glitches due to emulation limitations. I own a GBASP and a GBA flash cart, so I'd know.
