Default Asian Mega Drive 2 - region free?

Today I bought an Asian Sega Mega Drive 2. According to the DP guide, these Asian Mega Drive 2's are region-free.

Yes, it plays PAL and Japanese games (although the only Japanese I have, Super Monaco GP II will play on my PAL MD anyway with an adapter).

It won't play my US Genesis copies of Art of Fighting, Samurai Shodown and Super Street Fighter II.

Any information anyone can provide would be great. :-)

Nope, I was going from incorrect second-hand information when I wrote that description - as I've since discovered, both the Asian model 1 and 2 are basically PAL systems in a Japanese-style shell and have the same compatability as a standard PAL system. An updated entry is already in the file I'll be submitting before the weekend.

The "universal" tag seems to stem from the fact that they have the wider Japanese cart-slot, and thus will happily play the earlier region-free US/JP titles without the need for a bridge adaptor.

(btw, if you're left feeling short-changed by your MD2, I may be interested in working something out for it )

Thanks for that. Once again, it seems my three Genesis games will be unplayable for a time longer. Curses!

I think I might hold on to it for a while, but if I choose to get rid of it, I'll let you know.
