Default How to check if you have a original Famicom?

A friend recently bought a Famicom, but hes not sure if its the official from Nintendo or if its a clone. It looks just like the real Famicom, but I know theres atleast one clone that looks just like the original.

Is there anyway he can check if he have the official Famicom?

I would just compare it to actual pics on the web. Here's a sample plus some specs.

There were so many original FCs made, I don't think you'd have to worry about an identical Famiclone (and I've never heard of one, but there's always a first time). Also, with good famiclones around, and given the wierd TV output of the FC, you might want to consider an A/V, Sharp Twin, or "some other kind." I wouldn't, personally, accept anything other than official Nintendo/Sharp products (well, maybe a Nex!!), but that's just me.

True that, but the thing is that hes not sure he got the original from Nintendo or if its a Famiclone. Im pretty sure i've seen a Famiclone that looks just like the real Famicom.

Any word on how common lookalike FCclones are? This is actually the first I've heard of it (that's...apparent, isn't it?)

I have a clone that looks like an original red/white Famicom. I can't remember what it says on the front but it's not Family Computer. It also has A/V output. I've been wondering if it is what people call a "Hong Kong Famicom". I think it's from the 80's not one of the modern clones.

Well, the Hong Kong NES looks like a real NES, if I recall...there IS a large pirating community there (arr) so that's probably not what they're talking about (I guess that could encompass pretty much every FC outside of Southern American or Dendy machines).

The one I have is almost identical to an original Famicom except it says "Video Game" instead of "Family Computer" on the sticker in the front. The controller doesn't have a microphone but does have turbo, it has A/V output and the bottom of the case does not have the Nintendo copyright molded in to it. It is NTSC.
