Default Bad news! Thrifty shops getting wise about classic games...

I just got back from some thrift stores in my area and it seems that more and more thriftys are putting games behind glass. Usually you could go right to the electronic dept. and browse through the gaming stuff hands on. Not anymore, at least not around here. I'm also seeing jacked up prices like, sega genesis(core with cables) for $50. Now to me thats kind of high for a goodwill store. and atari games like combat for $3 and $4, if there are any at all. Not a good day in the trade.

Guess as more and more younger people start working in those places, it's going to happen more and more.

Smug Customer- "Oh, yeah, a complete boxed SwordQuest: WaterWorld? Hmmm, they're not worth much- give you 2 bucks for it!"

Employee- "Sure, I'll let you have it for 2 bucks- if those 2 bucks are with the other 50 bucks!"

    Foiled again!

The store manager's price the items as they see fit. I find that in my area that there are no collectors at all, so the games sit around at goodwill for at least a day (unless they are snes or genesis+.) I find that salvation army has no clue in my area about the price of anything.. I see 2600 commons there fro $5 all the time and the reasoning has nothing to do with collectors, it has to do with $5 for an old video cart seems reasonable to the lady who runs it.. In her mind the 2600 cart cost $30-40 at one time as did the coffee machine, but they now both have a $5 price tag.

I've also found that if it isn't priced at Salvation Army, don't bother asking as they will see token white boy and say, "$60.00"

in the end I'm all for crazy pricing on games, as I will find the commons some day no problem, but A bunch of 2600 carts priced at $4.99+ insures that many more Rare carts that are worth $50+ will find their way to me in the wild.

Its funny you say that about the Genesis because I seen a Genesis at my local Goodwill for $40,NO hookups, controllers, or adapter, just the system by itself. It was pretty dirty also.

When the Genesis was King (go a head and argue) I went to a thrift and they had a Master System for 80 bucks. I asked why it was so expensive and the attendant that spoke little english said "Like Sega". I thought that was funny.

I saw a sega genesis a few days ago with some games in a case, i grabbed a few of the games, and a sales clerk came by and said it was for silent auction. i looked at the price it was at, and it was 50 bucks!!! damn, who would pay for that is beyond me.

but if you ever see any unpriced games, talk to the person who doesnt give a shit wether its 50 cents or not. they mostly dont think old games are worth much.
Somebody once told me to get a life.

I told them I sold it for money to buy video games.
