Default List of Games stripped of their manga/anime roots

Just for fun let's do a list of games that were based off anime in Japan, then when localized it was totally altered to make it unobvious of its roots.

    >U.N. Squadron (Area 88), SNES, Arcade
    >Spellcaster, Mystic Defender (Kujaku Oh/Peacock King) SMS, Genesis
    >Street Combat (Ranma 1/2) Super NES
    >Keith Courage In Alpha Zones (Majin Eiyu Wataru) TG16
    >Chubby Cherub (Obake no Q-Taro) NES
    >Cratermaze (Doraemon) TG16
    >Ninja Kid (Gegege no Kitaro) NES
    >Black Belt, Last Battle (Hokuto no Ken/Fist of the North Star) SMS, Genesis
    >M.U.S.C.L.E. (Kinnikuman)

AWESOME topic. I'd actually thought of making this before, but I couldn't quite figure out how to title it. :/ Anyways, here's some more:

    Saint Sword (Saint Seiya)- Genesis
    Dragon Power (Dragonball)- NES
Puss 'n Boots (Around the world in 80 days?)- NES

That's all I've got at the moment.

I was reading about this the other day, and I couldn't help but think of Jump Superstars: I wonder if the Jump label will be stripped if it's localized. Time will tell, I suppose.

For SNES, Legend of the Mystic Ninja, which is of course known as Ganbare Goemon. Also Cybernator, AKA Assult Suits Valken. This got a faithful fantrans a while back, it's quite nice.

For PS, Ace Combat 3 comes to mind. Man, I bought this with the expectation of having character interactions, branching storylines, etc, but just got an all out shooter with no story at all. As a result you have no clue why you keep on switching sides!! It was an outrage it was.

I tell you, it doesn't happen too often now, I think.

i think ace combat three's story was pretty stable for its genre, was the jpn version much more involved?

oh yeah, what about smart ball? i'm always seeing the sfc version on ebay but i forget its original name.

    Hi there.

Just to let you know, the game "Trouble Shooter" was originally called "Battle Mania" in Japan.

Although it looks like it was based on Kei & Yuri of the "Dirty Pair", it was actually a 'satire' (or more of a bit of homage) of the characters Kei & Yuri.

The rest of the games you listed were right on the money.

From what I heard, the mobile light force games are graphically altered "Shikigami no Shiro" games or was it Gunbird?.

The JPN version was loaded with anime cutscenes and an extensive story highlighting the interpersonal drama between the game's various characters. Think Ridge Racer Type 4. Not necessary, but it would have been neat in English. Any time there is such a substantial neutering of a AAA title, it is very painful.

Mobile Light Force 2 on PS2 = Shikigami no Shiro 1
    Mobile Light Force 1 on PS1 = Gunbird 1

Not entirely graphically altered, but more like the illustrated cutscenes were excised. Luckily Castle Shikigami 2 came out here untouched (but poorly translated/dubbed, but still an improvement).

Yes, Ace Combat 3 still looks and plays like a charm, but it's just not quite the same without the personal involvment of the anime and such.

Did you know it was cut down from 2 discs to just 1? I mean, if you play the missions, not much is explained at all, because the cutscenes [except 1] are all gone.

For example, why the heck did you have to destory the whole city of Geofront just to get at the Night Raven? If you played the US version, you wouldn't have a clue.
