Default UK Shop rating game screwup

I rememeber the thread abou vcity a few days ago and i thought id bring this to your attention

Feast your eyes on the below, a Vietcong 18+ BBFC RATED game.

(sorry for shit pics, camera batteries were low)

Now your prolly thinking big deal, 18+ game. But how could they sell it to an 13 YEAR OLD (yes no lies, i am 13, maybe omne of the youngest on dp) And i payed for it completly which means i bought it, mum only came up behind me when they were handing the bag to me. Now isnt this a prosecutable offense? It really shows alot of people are mis informed about the rating system.

People often mistake me for being under 18. I'd probably get 'carded' for buying "M" rated games if not for the fact that I always buy with credit/debit cards which requires showing ID anyway. They always ask "You know this game is Rated 'M' right? You're okay with that?". At pawn shops and such I doubt they'd even point it out but I can't confirm this.

HAHAH! I saw it behind the counter and my heart almost lept outta my mouth, there was a strikers 1942 II there but i passed on that.

    Anyway back to the thread.

Seeing as how good gamestation has been id rather not sue them but it shows how misinformed some people are.

So what is the law over there? How big is the fine? Does your mom mind you playing games like that?

    1. The law goes like this

PEGI rated games, 3+ 11+ (empire earth was the only one to get this) 16+ and 18+ THESES ARE GUIDENCE ONLY. So even if you are 5 years old, is it legal to buy a 16+ PEGI game.

If its in a round circle and says BBFC 12 15 OR 18 YOU MUST be that age to buy the game otherwise its illegal. THe same goes for movies.

    2. I do not know how big the fine is.

    -(I imagine its alot)

    3. When i first got my ps2 in 2003 when i was round about 11 i had vice city, the getaway and mortal kombat which were all 18+ BBFC games. So waddaya think

-Oh btw, if i couldnt buy that game, my mum would have paid for it for me and i could play it

The only things my parents hate is overuse of swearing (san andreas & getaway) and any obvious sex (the getaway pre mission 3 cutscene) otherwise its all good

Maybe they didn't bother carding you cause your mother was there. I don't know.. maybe they just figured she'd probably end up buying it for you anyways, so they just sold it to you.

Oh.. and what's the deal on that copy of Parodius? Is it the pal version of Parodius Deluxe Pack? That's pretty cool.

I dunno, it is still fully illegal. One time the guy even refused to look for the game, (it was a bbfc) when he said your too y oung to buy it, i said my grandad would buy it, then he says he still wouldnt sell it to my grandad.

As for that parodius its just the normal parodius on its own (its sles is 00036 for those who care)

But stop with that discussion and onto the main thread again

i was always under the impression that selling a bbfc rated game to somebody under the legal age for that title carried a £2000 fine

it may be different now but it was around that amount during the days when i owned my games shop

Sounds like something I'd do if I were the salesman.
