As of late (maybe the last few months or so) my GameCube has been doing this really annoying thing with the sound.

I have my GC hooked up to a Sony 7.1 surround sound reciever via RCA cables and it seems every time I play, after about an hour or so the center channel speaker cuts out and everything gets muffled.

Right now I'm using the av cables that came with the system, but I've tried third party cables, different jacks on the reciever, and even different recievers (I noticed the problem for the first time on a Panasonic 5.1 reciever).

Could the problem be with the GCN itself? I'm starting to think so because it seems unlikely that the same thing would happen with two entirely different recievers, differen't cable and jacks.

Also I have no problems with any of my other consoles, just the GCN.

It also doesn't seem to make a difference what the reciever is set to either. I've tried Pro Logic, II, IIx, Neo 6 and 7.1, all to no avail, the only thing that seems to not mess up the sound if if I switch the unit to stereo.
