Default Free-Hit Bosses vs. Hit-Specific Bosses

Which do you prefer, those bosses where you can hurt them anywhere, or those with strategically placed hurt point(s)?

Also, feel free to talk about your favorite hit-specific or free-hit bosses here. Or share memories.

I enjoy both boss types... but the ones with limited hit points are easily more satisfying to me. Lemme add lastly, regardless of what type a boss is, I'm still a sucker for bosses who flash when hit. There's just something really pleasing in that for me. I guess because it takes me back to my NES playing days. There's nothing like watching a boss flashing rapidly, knowing that a few more hits will do him in. I still can see in my head Rocksteady from NES TNMT 2 flashing like mad, heh heh.

I like both bosses with specific hit zones like in megaman and bosses you can hit everywhere like in rpg's but depending the boss it's still cool.

Hit-anywhere bosses, simply because every limited-hit bosses I've seen (like the ones featured in LoZ) essentially require that you follow a linear pattern to hit the boss, as opposed to working under pressure to make your own strategy without getting your ass kicked.

Well I can't think of many bosses with those requirements, apart from in vertical/horizontal shooters where segments exist. Like R Type, Contra, etc. Omega Boost too, that's a nice example

If you were refering to RPGs, I guess the best example is Vagrant Story, where all enemies are divided up into body parts.

I like Stevens point on the flashing bosses, that is cool, and sorta adds a sense of urgency if you are low on the health status yourself.

I like the bosses that flash when hit (ie; Abadox for NES) but the bosses that flash and turn colors (ie; TMNT) are also pretty rad.
