Default Xbox audio problem - help!

MY cousins Xbox has an audio problem and we were wondering if anyone here could figure it out. At various times the sound gets really loud and distorted, and kind of crackles a bit. This happens at two points in the opening audio sounds (when you turn on the console, at the loudest points) and it also occurs in some games (most of the time when people are talking or when the character is indoors?) I swapped out his cables with mine (my system works fine) and we still get the same problem, so it must be his system. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I bet it more likely to be the sound setup you are using. Try the system on another TV/amplifyer.

Yep, did that, on 3 seperate TVs actually, and it still has the problem.

I know for sure that the console itself is the problem...I just don't know what to do about it.

At the moment he either gives Microsoft $80 to fix it, buys a new one, or we somehow figure it out and fix it ourselves.

Anyway, thanks for responding ...anyone else have any ideas.
