    Ok, since the KB demolished my initial entry, I'm posting it here. Copy/paste it in por favor.

    Rarely does the jack itself fail. Most of the time, the solder around the positive connection has cracked.

    To open the Nomad, a small phillips screwdriver and a gamebit are required. Once the case halves are seperated, reflow the solder to the + and - connections on the jack.

    The design of the power jack tends to create a pivot that causes the positive to break it's solder and pull away from the PCB. Since the jack is only held in place by solder, it doesn't take much stress to damage that connection. If the jack were mechanically anchored to the board, this would be a non-issue.

    You can augment the positive connection to the board by running a small piece of wire from the positive terminal of the jack to the nearby 9V test pad (use your VOM to confirm the correct pad). Adding a small bead of epoxy around the jack to the PCB may help as well.
