    Default Nippon Ichi

Of the four Nippon Ichi games I know, Disgaea (Is that how you spell it?), La Pucelle, Phantom Brave, and Makai Kingdom, which is the best one to buy. I want to get just one.

Isn't Valkyrie Profile a Nippon Ichi game too? I vote for that (if it is).

I know I'll probably catch shit about this, but I personally think their games are all overated. That being said, I guess Phantom Brave and La Pucelle would be your best bet seeing as they're only 20 dollars a peice, though after you played one you played them all.

Na, Valkyrie Profile was an Enix game developed by tri-ace.

I voted Disgaea, but you are missing at least 1 US release and many Japanese releases. Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana is an NIS game, and in Japan there is a sequal to that game.

If you read any Japanese, check out:

Eh, check it out anyway, you can still look at the pics

I believe Rhaspody is another Nippon Ichi game. Anyway, as to which one you should get, it really depends on what you're looking for. Personally, I perfer La Pucelle because it's more story driven and the leveling system isn't quite as involved as in the others. Mega leveling is important to all 4 games if you want to experiance all the game has to offer, but you certainly don't need to. You really do miss out though. In terms of story, La Pucelle and Phantom Brave are similar (in that the story is important to the game and at times is fairly serious) while Disgaea and Makai Kingdom are more slapstick with plots that seem like they're mostly there to provide reasons for the characters to go from one point to another. One thing you should be aware of is that all of the games (in particular Disgaea, Phantom Brave, and Makai Kingdom) have a tendency to leave you to figure out how important features like transmigration work. That's not necessarly a bad thing, exploration's part of the fun, but a little explanation wouldn't hurt either. At least Disgaea gives you some information, Makai Kingdom seems to figure you should already know by now.

"Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure" and "Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana" are two other of Nippon Ichi's games. Perhaps you should alter the poll to include them too.

Valkyrie Profile is not one of Nippon Ichi's games.

I would vote for Rhapsody if it gets inclded in the poll.

Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana is not made by Nippon Ichi. The Atelier games (and there are lots of them) are made by Gust while NIS published Eternal Mana in America (it's the first Gust games that gets a western release).

That said Disgea is one of my all time favourite games. I haven't played Makai Kingdom yet though.

Total agreement. I just got Makai Kingdom for a friend for his birthday and he had to convince me it wasn't one of their other games repackaged.

"Strategy" RPGs aside.. Rhapsody WAS a fun little game.
    Zelda is NOT an RPG.

I'm playing a little Makai right now. I tried La Pucelle the other day. I attempted Phantom Brave once...Disagea I spent weeks in.

Disgaea just has the balace of the elements I like...Makai ain't bad though, the vehicals are pretty fun.

I thought Disgaea was a fantastic game. It was funny and the characters were all interesting. And, it has a "New Game +" feature that lets you play again with your uber stats.

Mondo levelling will be manditory to complete all the side areas.

(I put 120 hours in and couldn't scratch one area if I wanted to)

I will tell Wikipedia that they are wrong. YOu realize that wikipedia is user managed. You can put what you want in. The real good website to figure things out on is Answers.com.

Right now, I'm saying Disgaea, but I won't vote until my copy of Makai Kingdom gets here from the NIS store, with all the extras and stuff.

This Pram character looks annoyingly cute.

    Disgaea!

Phantom Brave and Makai kingdom both annoy me with the lack of a grid. It just devolves into a game of bunch-ball in the middle of the field with very little strategy. Also... if you aren't using a grid for movement, why are all the stages built in perfect squares?

Although I have yet to play Makai Kingdom (Which I want to, a very lot), I'd say Disgaea. I love it. I play it all the time. It's a good thing it's a long game, because it's such a good game. It's not like most games that get boring after a while. This one has me 20 hours in, and I'm still wanting much more.

So has anyone played Makai Kingdom yet? I heard from the manager at my Gamecrazy that it is the best of the four. Anyone have any thoughts?

I just dipping into this series, starting with La Pucelle Tactics.
