Default I bought a DS, do I keep or sell the SP?

I just bought a DS tonight and am still awaiting the initial charge so I can try it out. I have a SP and can't decide if I should hold on to it or sell it off to get back some of the money I spent on the DS.

If the DS played all gameboy games, this wouldn't be an issue at all, I would sell the SP in a heart beat but I am trying to figure out not only if there are any worthwhile original or color gameboy games to play and if so, would I actually get them and play them. I have about 10 original and color gameboy games now.

Also, does the DS play the WarioWare Twisted game? Does it play the GBA video's which for some reason my son really likes. I know I will find out soon but this charge seems to be taking forever!

Anyone else had to contemplate the keep or sell the SP after getting a DS?

Just thought of a side note:

I haven't had any experience with a DS until this evening and it's a little heavier than I thought it would be. Anyone else feel this way when they handled a DS for the first time?

I can't wait for that little red charge light to go out, I'm so excited to try this baby out!

I like having both systems. Warioware Twisted is awkward on the DS due to weight and size. I also like having the SP since it's easier to put in your pocket, etc, although the upcoming SP micro-version will be preferable soon.
Nintendo sure does know how to make money off of extending and enhancing capabilities of what are basically the same system(s).
I say keep 'em, especially since you'll get virtually nothing $-wise on a SP trade-in these days.
    My 2 cents worth...

Congrats on your new DS! You got some good games, too.

To me, your question really raises a few other questions:
    • Do you play PacMan Vs?
    • Do you play Four Swords Adventures?
    • Do you have Animal Crossing?
    • Do you use the e-Reader?

To me, an SP is worth keeping for PacMan Vs alone. That game should be recognized as one of the greatest achievements in multiplayer.

You say your son likes GBA videos, why not give him the SP?

I gave my kids the SP, and kept the DS. The screen is a bit better on the DS, but I still use their SP systems sometimes. Just so much lighter and smaller.

I kept my SP for the eReader but also for Zelda: Oracle of Ages/Seasons and Zelda: Link's Awakening. And Wario Ware Twisted is less awkward to play on the SP than the DS. Besides, both use the same power supply, so you can always keep a power supply with you if you game on the go.

I plan on kepping my SP when I get a DS, so I vote keep it. It's better on portability, and there are a ton of great GB and GBC games out there.

And besides since you'll probably only get $30-40 for in you might as well keep it just to play the classic games.

I vote to keep the SP as well; someone mentioned Pac-Man Vs. as a compelling app, and y'know what, they're right. I hadn't even thought of that as an argument for keeping it. The killer app of the GBA SP is a Gamecube game! O cruel irony!

Well, okay, not cruel. But it's a good reason.

Wow, I just noticed that the DS doesn't have the capability of hooking up to the cube. Yes, I do play both Animal Crossing and Four Swords.

Thanks for all of the comments, looks like the SP is definately worth keeping for many reasons.

Not to mention, I am a WarioWare Twisted player and while I haven't tried it out on the DS, it seems that it would be awkward.

Anyone looking forward to that surgeon game on the DS? I can't remember the name but what a crazy idea. Do you know when it will be released?

    I'd keep it.
I have 2 GBA's that I didn't sell after I got my DS. I still find myself playing them every once and a while too.

I find that I don't quite like the d-pad on the DS as much as on the SP. For most stuff it's fine, but for games like Monkey Ball or shooters, which demand absolute perfection in 8-way control, I have to use the SP to play well. So I still own - and use - the SP.

I like my sp and ds , i like having both of them... My sp, I can simply throw into a bag, and go... if im going on vacation... whereas the ds, i am a lil more careful... plus, I dont like the small buttons on the ds too much, and I feel weird not using both screens :/

    I'd keep it..

I bought the my SP after I got the DS...I don't use the DS as much as I do the SP ...(depends on the games you are going to play too)..But the SP is so easy to take around with me then the DS...I never take the DS with me..I always take the SP.

I like the design of the SP better then all the Gameboy's..

Keep it, it's always nice to have a backup system for playing GB games when the battery on the DS dies.

I second that with all my heart and soul. Pac-Man VS is the most ingenius multiplayer game I've seen in ages. And it's so easy to pick up and so entertaining that non-gamers get hooked into it (like my boyfriend's mom). Whenever I'm over my boyfriend's and a couple of his friends are over, we play a couple rounds of Pac-Man VS and all hell breaks loose

Well, it seems you've already decided that the SP is worth keeping, and so it is. I still have mine even though I have a DS. I had to keep it, I have so many GB and GBC games not to mention the GC linkage for Animal Crossing, Pac-Man Vs and more. Plus it's the ltd ed NES model and I wouldn't give that up for the world.

But this makes me think of another question -- Is the GameBoy Micro gonna be worth getting? I'm still on the fence about this. I mean, it's A LOT more portable than even the SP, which I still have trouble fitting into the pocket of a couple pairs of pants. The screen is incredibly tiny but it makes up for size with the greatest resolution and brightest light of any handheld screen. And totally customizable faceplates. However, Nintendo didn't announce whether or not it would be able to play GB and GBC games. I can picture "Of course it would" since it's the same hardware inside as an Advance, only in a tinier casing, but I could also see how it couldn't, what with it being so much tinier.

I think it would be worth it for people who are still in the Dark Ages of GameBoy and have an original Advance (they're still out there!) or even a Color! But anyone who owns an SP, there's really nothing that the Micro holds over the SP that makes it worth getting. The SP may not be as adorably tiny as the Micro, but it's just the right size, and the flip top keeps the screen and buttons guarded when not in use. Plus. who needs custom face plates when you can go to www.decalgirl.com and get customizable vinyl skins in a myriad of unique patterns (including one amusing one that looked like the top of an XBox but said "XBoy on the jewel instead)

Maybe after it's been out a couple years and the price drops down to a decent price, I'll pick one up as an uber-portable GameBoy I can have on me in a tight situation (as in, my pants are too tight to fit the SP in my pocket ) but it's not something I need or want right away.
What do the rest of you think?

I have two SPs that I bought before I had my DS. I kept both of them.

I mainly use it for Game Boy and GBC games. Sometimes I just have the odd complusion to just pick it up and play a GBA game if I don't want to get out the DS. I'd keep it.
