Default Should I get this intellivision?

I was talking to a friend of mine today and he mentioned he had an intellivision. He said he'd sell me the system for $20 or trade it to me for a 2600 with a few games. The system works, comes with hook ups, 2 controllers, snafu, baseball and a few more games which he couldn't remember. Should I buy it, trade for it or pass on it? I've never played one of these things so i'm not sure if i'd like it. I like atari and c64 stuff so i'm not picky about graphics as long as the games are good.

Being that the system had a lot of sports titles you shouldn't be shock he has a baseball game. IMO I think $20 is a good deal for an intv.

    Dp guide says

    Intellivision $15 r1

    Intellivision II $25 R2

As with any system, if you don't have it, get it.

Might as well. It's a good price for a working system with some games. It's not a steal, but you're getting a very solid price on it, I'd take it, especially if it's in pretty good condition.

Ehhhhhhhhh.... 20 bucks for an Intellivision... I'm pretty suprised that everybody told you to buy it.
I wouldn't buy it, but thats me. If you had more than 3 2600's I'd trade for one, but I wouldn't pay $20 for it.
Those games to nothing to the value of the package. They're all very common.

I wouldn't trade my only Atari 2600 for one, but I'd let go of a spare. Otherwise I'd pony up the $20, which sounds like a fair price.

Make sure, however, that both the controllers do work 100%. Everybody rips on the 5200 controllers as crappy but at least those can be serviced. An Intv with bad controllers in a paper sack is worth one paper sack.

Also make sure you get as much of the cartridge extras as the guy has got: overlays, manuals, etc. Get your money's worth out of this.

If you have never had one, it is worth the 20$. But I will admit I am a little bias. Intellivision was my first system and has quite a few game that are unique to the system. And if you like sports games you will really like the system, I suggest Slam dunk pro basketball. One of the best basketball games ever. If you are not into sports, I am sure there are some other people who could tell you some great starter games to pick up. The first one that pops into my head is Advanced Dungons and Dragons.

I just picked one up with 4 complete games for $12. I think its a pretty cool system. I know the controllers are hard wired (in my version), but that does not mean they are unserviceable.... does it?

    .

Actually it does. Maybe I'm just incompetent, but I've never been able to restore a non-working one to working order. I've tried replacing the "cicuit paper" with a new sheet and could never get it to fold up and work right.

The controls actually are removable, but not without opening up the case. Inside you will find the controls are plugged to the main board with connectors that look a lot like a large version of the analog sound cables commonly found in PC's. In my experience going this route to replace Intv controllers is actually easier than trying to fix the controller internally.

$20 is no sweet deal, however I think it is in the high but acceptable price range especially if you don't have one and really want one.

It's a fine deal IMHO. How often do you find a working Intellivision in the wild? You can find them easy and cheap on Ebay, but then you have to pay for shipping from a total stranger.

    Get it, silly.

Thanks for indulging my gaming habit when I was young, Dad. You were the best. I miss you. ~David Barnes 1926-2007~

Well, i don't know what you think about INTV, but i suggest Try playing it first. I don't like the controllers for INTV...
