    Default GCOffline with DPGuide Info!

I just posted a copy of GCOffline to the newsgroups abem and abe.sega. This new version has DP Guide info for all US Genesis releases!

Genesis Collective Offline (GCOffline) is an offline version of the Genesis Collective website (http://www.GenesisCollective.com). GCOffline currently contains the text information from the Genesis database, including all reviews, Game Genie codes, Pro Action Replay codes, hints, cheats, passwords and screenshots.

GCOffline is a Microsoft Windows HTML Help file. HTML help is the standard Windows help file format introduced as a replacement for WinHelp in Windows 95. Any version of Windows should work - if you have problems, see the Troubleshooting page for a link to download the latest version of HTML Help.

GCOffline was generated from the databases used at the Genesis Collective website. The website scripts were modified to produce static HTML pages. HTML Help Workshop was used to combine the almost 4000 files into a compressed, indexed, full-text searchable help system that works just like every other Windows help file.

    Genesis Database Summary

    18 January 2003

    1311 name entries
    1269 game entries
    823 game pages
    1248 startup screenshots
    1002 ingame screenshots
    985 cartridge label scans
    888 cartridge edge label scans
    833 box scans
    4 manual cover scans
    9587 Game Genie™ codes for 267 games
13 Pro Action Replay™ codes for 5 games
    168 hints for 82 games
    379 cheats for 180 games
    1264 passwords for 99 games
Last database update: 17 January 2003

Note: Cartridge, box, manual cover and circuit board scans are only available online.

www.GenesisCollective.com is the the home site for GCOffline. You will find updated game databases there, as well as material you won't see in the basic GCOffline help file, such as cartridge, box and manual scans, PAT files (these you can load directly into emulators to apply Game Genie codes without typing them all), forums and a real community that enjoys the Sega games. Drop in often!

[EDIT: you can grab this from one of the DP mirror sites for now: http://digitalpress.5u.com/genesis/gcoffline_v15.zip - it's 22.5mb but worth every second of DL time]

Has anyone looked at this? Any suggestions for the next revision (although a 32x section is planned and mostly scanned)?

How does one find abe.sega? I use to have GCOffline on my old computer, which I downloaded from your site. Right now I'm using AOL and abem & abe.sega come up as invalid. I don't even see it searching Google. I've found your posts in alt.sega.genesis, as well as the post here, but can't find it where it's posted at.

Hey Snorter, do you need someone to host this? We can support these files if you want to point someone to a link instead of a newsgroup (I've found some people don't even know how to ACCESS the newsgroups).

Let me know. And you KNOW my opinion on this. It's STYLIN!

I can't speak for snorter, but I would sure appreciate it. :P

I still cannot find this even after adding both of those two groups to my aol newsgroup reader. I've set the preferences back to 30 days(max) and also the characters to 5000 (max) but I'm only finding like a small handful of posts, and this isn't listed.

Google is not finding it either. I've tried advanced searches, and just browsing thru their lists, but it's not there.

AFAIK AOL really sucks at newsgroup. It doesn't carry many of the binary groups. It also doesn't carry certain newsgroup like the AOL sucks group.

Google is not the best newsgroup to use for binary groups.

YES! I'll send you email. I'm bandwidth limited (5 gigs/month, and the site pushes around 4.8 gigs/month WITHOUT the 22 meg GCOffline downloads).

    Sorry for the delay!

    Now available here:
    http://digitalpress.5u.com/genesis/gcoffline_v15.zip

It's a 22.5mb file but worth every second. Complete Genny list, screen shots, rarities, descriptions, and way more. If you're a Genesis fan - or even a casual Genesis gamer - you really need to check this out.

A very impressive collection of info. Hats off to the persons responsible. A lot of hard work went into this.

I still like the DP guide, though *wink*
RIP bargora, you will be greatly missed. That is how we do things on Giedion Prime.
