I added 68 games to my NES collection, for a measly $170 CDN (about $140 USD). That's $2.50 CDN per game, including taxes (it was at a local video game store). I just bought every NES game they had that I didn't have. Among those were many games that I hadn't even heard of, ever, including some R5's (although I haven't looked at the guide for the rarity of most of the games yet). I haven't tried them all (I'm at 13 thus far, not all new to me), but the best one so far is a gem known as...

Formula 1: Built to Win (by Seta, 1990)

This is an excellent single-player racing game, easily the best one I've played on the NES. It looks like Rad Racer at first glance, but it's much, much better. There are four cars to choose from (a Mini Cooper, a Vector W2, a Ferrari F40 and a Formula 1) and 32 courses (including eight real F1 tracks, such as the Gilles Villeneuve Grand Prix here in Montreal... I never knew there were Rockies-style mountains nearby ). The courses are short and sweet. Not only that, but there's a time trial mode to hone your skills as much as you want on any course, right from the beginning (without opponents), and which saves your best time and name! That impressed me quite a bit, since this is an NES racing game we're talking about. But the best feature in the game is the main mode... think Gran Turismo for the NES. You have to beat the easier courses to earn a little money in order to buy better car parts, thus enabling you to go for harder courses, winning licenses to participate in other races and buying new parts, new cars, etc. Once you've got the appropriate license, you can try any course as often as you want (pending a fee for most of them), and there's even a little trophy which indicates which courses you've already won. You can save your game at any time, which rules. The learning curve is quite smooth: the game is challenging, but not frustratingly so. The graphics are impressive and very fluid, which gives the game a nice sense of speed. The backgrounds are varied and the scenery is easy on the eyes. Two of the three music tracks are pretty good, and the other is okay. You can also turn the music off to hear sound effects such as the tires screaching, the engine roaring, etc. I couldn't stand GT3 because there were too many cars, too much customization, etc. Here, the balance between gameplay and customization just seems right; it's very fun to cool off and browse through auto parts or even try your luck at the slot machine mini-game after an intense race. I'm anything but a racing game fan, so I haven't tried that many (although I can say I'm familiar with Project Gotham Racing, F-Zero X, Super Mario Kart and GT3 in particular), but I was shocked by the quality of this title. Anyway, I highly recommend this game, which does not receive the attention that it deserves by any means. Perhaps it's due to its rarity (Wow! I just checked the guide, and it's an R5 according to DP, which makes it one of the rarest NES games that I own), and that's a shame. I myself had never heard of, let alone played, this game before.

This is why I like to buy random games... there is no joy greater than discovering some hidden gem like this. Now if you'll excuse me, I have quite a bit of treasure-seeking to do.

I dream of the day I can do that

I probably won't have any finds for a while as I've just spent most of my money on a gamecube. I have to make do with £10/15 a week.

    Personal "finds" threads
One of the things we love to see the most is what everyone found while thrifting on any given week or weekend. For that reason, you'll SEE a thread for each week or weekend that everyone who wants to share their discoveries with can add to.

Check to make sure that such a thread doesn't already exist, and if not, feel free to start one. You should list the start and end dates for either the weekly or weekend finds thread as well.

Please don't start topics related to your personal "finds" unless you're adding or starting the weekly or weekend topic. Any extraneous "finds" topics will be locked and re-directed.

and all ebay find will be posted in the correct section .

I usually never post in this topic, but I just got a killer find.

Was sitting at work yesterday and this guy comes in and we started talking about videogames. We were talking about the turbografx and he told me his broke and that he was looking for another one. I told him how I collected tg stuff too and he asked me if I had a cd system and I told him yes. He said that he would be back. He came back and gave me all these games for FREE!!!

    Turbografx CD Games:

    Monster Lair
    Final Zone 2
    Sherlock Holmes
    Fighting Street
    Y's Book I & II
    Y's 3
    Magical Dinosaur Tour
    J.B. Harold Murder Club
    Valis 2
    Lords of the Rising Sun

    PC-Engine CD Games:

    Golden Axe
    Final Zone 2
The Manhole (lol...it's actually a kids game, seriously)
    Red Alert
    Pomping World

Not only did I get all the above for free, but all 15 games are complete and in mint condition (no boxes though, and only one spine card). I about fell over when he gave them to me. I checked the DP database and they are worth a combined $278.

    Today's garage sale finds:

    PS1 games- .25 each
    Dave Mirra BMX

I totally wasn't expecting those PS1 games to be so cheap, and the DK bank is just awesome (it's even got some change in it!).

I alos hit up the Yard Sales, but there was slim pickings this weekend... I found a barebone Original Playstatin with one controller, which looked like it was stored in a swamp with a price tag of 50 bucks.... I decided to pass on it

I did, however, pick up the following movies:
    Waterboy
    Billy Madison
    Big Daddy
Close Encounters fo the Thrid Kind
    Faculty
    13th Warrior
    No Holds Barred
    Night at the Roxbury
    Bill & Teds Excellent Adventure

And th closest thing to video gaming:
Top Gun Thrustmaster PC Joytsick (50 cents)
Can be seen in the following link:
    http://www.cyberg8t.com/f2comp/prodtg.htm

Anyone got any idea on what games I can play with it, and if it would work with modern computers???

)Our internet was down last night so I couldn't post my finds for yesterday. We went to the Richland Mall and I went into this game store called "Special FX". This is one of those game shops where they use this big overpirced master list for games and loose used games can be at up to $9.99(or more. $24.99 for megaman X! ). But I dug though the overpriceyness and found Mountain Bike Rally (my first R6 for the SNES! ) for $4.99. Then I spotted a sealed copy of battlezone for atari 2600. I figured it would be overpriced way too much, but the price for each game is the same, even when it is sealed. (ex. $4.95 for videomation, the same for it sealed, which they didn't have, I would have bought it for that much!) So, I paid $1.95 for it .
Check my auctions here! I am in the business of finding off-beat things, including video game stuff!

    View my collection!
