That's what I was thinking when I checked the auctions.

They're still not worth nearly that much IMO

So for $1000 what proof do you have that there's actually a game on that disk? Cause quite frankly one blurry picture isn't cutting it.

There's not really any way to prove that there's a game on the disc, such is the nature of collecting prototypes. And the reserve wasn't anywhere near $1000.

There was one time I sold a Red Star that turned out to be an assets disc. I simply gave the buyer money off on his next purchase, as we were going to do another deal right after that. That was slightly embarrassing, and if it happened again I'd just refund or send something else.

Unfortunately I don't have the time to test every disc that walks through my door, so that's happened twice.

    a) Time to place eBay auction: Check.
    b) Time to deposit $200 BIN: Check
    c) Time to test $200 item: Sorry, too busy, see a and b

Before all of you come crashing down on TDE know that what he sells is good stuff. Those of us who collect these prototypes on this kinda medium know the inherent risks involved with buying stuff on cd-r's. The proto's that I do have are not all on official media (I'd love it if they were, but thats not the case) but since these things can just be burned off and tossed into a test/beta unit and are done so quite regularly (in house developing) it becomes important for us to know our sources for where these are coming from to show legitimacy when none can be given otherwise. TDE deals in modern betas and protos and his wares arnt popped out of his burner when he feels the need. And those of us who get these tend not to let go of them, just like those who collect NES protos and dont release them. We tend not to flaunt around coding that costs us small fortunes for a reason. We like it keeping its value.
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

A lot of people are in here thinking it's one big copy fest, but don't seem to care when other people are going crazy with things like NES repros and what not.

Plain and simple: TDE sells good stuff, it gets to you quick, and it's the real deal. He does not copy any of the items, and the stuff he deals with is 100% legit. If anyone is complaining about his lack of work effort with testing each and every disk, imagine dealing with numerous betas without a test PS2 and only a modded one? Some betas work on modded, some don't. The majority do, but it's impossible to test each and every disk everyone gets I hate to say.

    Default Monkey Butt

Ok so people will vouch for the seller, but the photos are just terrible. With the one game that did sell for 300.00 I would strongly suggest digital camera. It looks almost as if the seller was using a cellphone camera. That is a lot of money to to drop on a crappy photo and that doesn't even factor in the burned cd questions.
Condoleezza Rice is nice, but I prefer A Roni!

Did ya ever think to ASK for another picture? Or were you just content with complaining about a blurry one. YES, I know that its blurry but if I was to dump money on something like that, i'd (shock gasp) ASK FOR ANOTHER PICTURE! Oh wait, TDE and I have done business before and (GASP) I have asked for more than one pic, and TDE obliged. It was for much simpler things than these beta's as well, so dont think that just asking on a 'big money' item is what it would take.

/me looks up to make sure the sky isnt falling.

The pictures could be better, but sometimes peoples access to digital cameras is limited or they are rushed for time. If the item doesnt sell because of the picture its his fault and no one elses. If your genuinely interested in a item and DONT ask for at least ask for another picture, its no ones fault but yours. (sometimes it is nice to start a conversation with a seller to make sure that what you think your getting is what it actually is too, especially in the proto dept)

It is well known that I don't put much effort into pictures. Most of this stuff isn't going to make a pretty picture anyways. HOWEVER, if you need a better picture, I can do that, but NO ONE asked for one during these auctions.

I generally just describe the item, and if you don't like it, I'll take it back (or replace it). That method seems to work well for most people, and I find that the ones that ask for pictures most of the time don't end up buying the item. I should note that I've never had to take an item back.

That's not to say I don't screw up sometimes. I had The Red Star which turned out to be an assets disc (no gameplay) and in that case I knocked money off the next order. I had a Godzilla 2 that didn't work for whatever reason, so I just sent him another game. I sent someone a Monkey Ball for PS2 (was supposed to be for Xbox), so I just let him keep it and sent him the correct game.

The buyer of the $300 one (Slap Happy Rhythm Busters) received it, and was satisfied with it, and I'm working on a deal for the RAH right now. I've also sold many items off of the original list (and 95% of the people that bought didn't ask for a picture!), so apparently I'm doing something right, even if it is not being done your way.
