    Ms. Pac-Man world record broken

Abdner Ashman of Queens, New York, bests long-standing score by narrow margin.
The score-keeping gang at Twin Galaxies is reporting a new world record on the classic Ms. Pac-Man arcade game. Previously held by Chris Ayra, the Ms. Pac-Man record is now the sole property of Abdner Ashman of Queens, New York, who bested Ayra's previous mark of 920,310 with a mark of 921,360. To put that in perspective, over more than 130 stages of Ms. Pac-Man, the difference between the two performances came down to 1,050 points, barely more than the points value of a single apple.

I thought it was Ron Corcoran or Walter Day that held the previous record...

    interesting

the ultra high-end players are looking for ways to manipulate the random fruit that appears after the banana stage. until this is achieved, we will likely see more of these tiny jumps in world records.

Damn, I wouldn't stand it play Ms. Pacman for almost 6 hours. I like arcadegames, as they don't take the time a RPG takes.

    Anyway an unbeliveable high score.

Very cool. I get at most 120k when I play (in Turbo mode no less), so I just can't imagine playing for 5 hours and reaching 900k+
Time will be when the broadest river dries

I'm still trying to grasp the concept of the kill screens. It's upside down, and the dot graphics don't match where the dots are... so does that mean it's impossible to finish and you just have to die?

There's apparently some sort of pattern that the experts have figured out. I would guess that after having gone through 133 stages your hands would be rather used to the motions of when and where to turn in each board.

From what I understand yes, this is the case. If they spend 5+ hours getting there and can only practice at that point I'm not surprised that they end up dying.

From what I read in the article the idea is that the programmers ran out of space to put further level information so they throw this up at you instead

while you can rely on paterns, the ultra high end players know how to manipulate three of the four ghosts (the fourth ghost is random) with their movements. using paterns would require way too much concentration, as one mistake would completely destroy what you were bulidling. using manipulation, but playing on the fly allows you more breathing room.

Almost as fasinating as the guy who actually finished Pac-man.
I'm training to run a marathon... I think I can do it. But there is no way that I could play Ms. Pac-man for 6 hours.

Especially moreso in Ms.Pacman which really has no patterns (unlike original Pacman) since the Red & Pink ghosts initial directions in each stage is randomized.
