Pinball vs. Video Games - the poll

Vids or Pins? What's your preference?

I hate to say this in a VG forum, but I like pinball better. No matter what pin you play, it's never the same game twice. Put me in front of a "Twilight Zone", I can literally blank out the world around me for an hour or so....

Of course, I love me some vid-jo games, too! Otherwise, I wouldn't be here!

I just thought It'd be interesting to see everyones responses. I know we have to have some pinball fans here, too! I always thought vids and pins went hand-in-hand.

I was just never that good at pinball, and really just never found anything in it that inspired me to spend the time and money to improve my game. I've mellowed out on it a bit now - if I see a classic machine, it's hard to resist - but I'm still more of a video game fan.

I love a good pinball table, but in my mind pinball is almost like another genre of video game. Sometimes I'm in the mood for a fighter, sometimes a puzzle, sometimes pinball. This view is reinforced by the fact that both pinball and video games are competing for the same quarters in an arcade.

I voted pinball, because if I had to choose between games in today's arcades and pinball machines, I'd choose pinball every time. I think I'd actually like to own a pinball machine more than I would an arcade cab. Oh, and Twilight Zone rocks my world. It used to be in an all night cafe where I went to college, talk about good memories...

Pinball is one experience that I definitely cannot duplicate anywhere outside the arcade.

On the other hand, it is my understanding that to truly master pinball requires intimate knowledge about just how, where, and when to give the machine a good whack to send the ball where you want. This requires considerably more physical aptitude than most videogames, I'd say.

Yes! California Extreme, held just last weekend in San Jose. It's an incredible selection of pins every year, usually including a few protos (such as Capcom's incredible Big Bang Bar). They also have pinball clinics by champion players, and panels with pinball designers.

Video games is a very big part of my life, but pinball was my first true love, i own my favorite pinball machine of all time (flash) by williams. it gets as much (if notmore) playtime as any of my systems.

Is this compared to arcade cabinets or consoles?

In an arcade I'd much rather have pinball. But at home I'd rather have a console because you get so much more variety.

I'd say they are too different to simply vote for either one. They both have so many aspects that are different from eachother that make them good.
Still, I'd go with video games.

I took the same thought when I voted here. I love my video games, but there's always room in my eyes for a good pin table. South Park, Addam's Family, Twilight Zone... always a good time.

I was there at CAExtreme. Awesome show. I loved playing all the video games and pinball tables but for some reason really enjoyed playing the pinball more.

Space Shuttle, Whirlwind, Elvira, Hyperball, Black Knight, Pinbot, Earthshaker... there were so many awesome pins there. I was in heaven!

I hear ya. Lucky you, you own your favorite pinball machine. When I was younger I loved playing the Buck Rogers pinball. I know it's not a popular machine but I just loved playing it.

I'd like to one day own a Buck Rogers machine. I'm just hoping that by the time I save up some cash that there is still a decent machine left. Not sure if it's just me but they seem rare.

I didn't really get good at pinball until after my stroke.

It sounds strange to say, but good reflexes kind of get in the way of playing a good game of pinball.

I love videogames, but pinball wins for me, just for the THWAAACK! of the free game
