Default Sega Saturn Memory Card: Instructions needed

I received this email last night. Oddly, I can't find a Saturn memory card anywhere! Can someone lend an assist?

Could you please take a moment to assist me?
I recently purchased a Sega Saturn Memory Card (8 MB) for my son Tony's system.
How can he save game levels or scores to it?
He is Autistic (if you know what that is) and I want to help him save the
levels he has attained after hours of play.
There were no instructions with the cartridge, but we did see a "Memory
Management" console pop up. However I am not
sure how to use it and that is why I am seeking any help we can get.

If you are not familiar with the use of the memory card but know of someone or
somewhere that is, please tell us?

Thank You very much for your time in reading and hopefully responding to our
    request!!

Weird. I got the exact same email.

    I don't have a memory card either, so I can't help.

It depends on the game I believe...

For example, I have Shanghai, Triple Threat...when you start up the game, it asks you if you want to save to a memory card or the internal RAM. If the memory cartridge is not plugged in, that choice is greyed out.

There also is internal RAM, which is run by a lithium battery...a memory card is not necessarialy needed.

I would suggest play a game for a bit, try saving it and reboot, and see if you can recover the game...rather than finding out 5 hours into a game you can't
