    Default WOOHOO! (Bragging)

Alright, some of you (Yashiro) may know that, back in August I got DDR Konamix and a couple of pads, modded the pads, and began to play at home. At the time, I could pass level 3 or 4 songs. Well, a new game system, DDR MAX, and lots of arcade tokens later, I broke the level nine barrier last week. I can now happily say, I'm on my way to being the best of the best (damn you MAX 300, I will have my revenge). I play on a 5th and a 7th mix at the arcade, and Konamix and MAX at home, here are my accomplishments, from this week and last week.

My Summer Love, Heavy, 9 - passed on MAX, 5th mix, and 7th mix - passed it last week

Kakumei, Heavy, 9 - passed on 7th mix - passed it yesterday

And, just a few minutes ago,

Insertion, Heavy, 9 - passed on MAX - about fifteen minutes ago

Broken My Heart, Heavy, 9 - passed on MAX - about five minutes ago

For those of you who don't know, songs are rated from 1 - 10 in difficulty. There are only three songs that I know of that are rated 10, and they all came out recently. So, the songs I'm doing now were considered the hardest about 8 months to a year ago.

Anyway, just wanted to brag on my accomplishment. Carry on.

Dude, maybe you can help me get started. I got DDR Max and a pad because I wanted to play it just for exercise purposes. I went through the training, which was cake, but as soon as the actual game started, it got WAY WAY WAY more difficult, I couldn't even come close to keeping up.

So what do I need to do to start this game easier? What are the easiest settings, what tunes should I start with, and any other advice you can provide would be appreciated. Bear in mind Brits have no rhythm, except for the stones and beatles

I have no hope of getting this good at DDR as long as I have my cheap third party unmodded pad. I think I will eventually invest in a Red Octane hard pad. Only then will I be able to rock my living room!

But now that you've got some skills, you're going to stop playing at home :-). My buds that are good (by good, I mean A's on 300MAX every time and A's on MAXX Unlimited, so...) never play at home, because it makes it harder to play at the arcade, which is where the tournaments are.

I really suck at it, i can play about 6 or so songs and thats it. I do want most of the DDR games, some of the musics ok. But mostly my woman and whatnot like to just shake it, and hey thats worth it.

On DDR MAX, if you were able to pass all the training, start a single player game on light mode. Start with something rated at two feet or less (Baby Gimme Your Love or Remember You or My Generation), something like that. Figure out which of those you're best at (it will depend on your natural aptitude, whether you prefer speed, or slow). When you figure out which one you come the closest to passing, play it over and over again until you can pass with no trouble, then try another of the three songs I've mentioned. Once you get that down, try the other one. Keep playing songs the are rated about the same (you know where the "foot" rating is right?), until you're passing all of those on every try....then start trying harder ones. Honestly, Konamix had a larger selection of easier songs, but you can learn on MAX. It just takes practice and dedication.

But now that you've got some skills, you're going to stop playing at home :-). My buds that are good (by good, I mean A's on 300MAX every time and A's on MAXX Unlimited, so...) never play at home, because it makes it harder to play at the arcade, which is where the tournaments are.
I have actually competed in three tournaments now, both in freestyle and technical competitions. I don't really find that playing at home makes it harder to play in the arcade, as I play in the arcade quite a bit anyway (I like to show off ). Give me one warm up round to adjust to the size difference between arcade and home pads, and I'm good to go.

Haven't touched my game in about 3 months...

I'm no good, I keep hurting myself (why I'm not playing...), but I really like it!!

I need to get something other than the Disney game...

Okay, I am so out of the this whole DDR thing. I could read reviews and what not, but I'd rather get the 411 from you people. My local arcade sucks eggs, so they'll probably get a machine in 2010.

What should I get, what system is it for, is there multiplayer, etc etc.

    Thanks!

I've never played dancing stage, so I don't know.

For the beginning player, I'd suggest DDR Konamix for PS1, although DDR MAX for PS2 is also good. You'll also need a pair of mats (it's a two player game, so that addresses your multiplayer question). I've found my madcatz mats to be suitable, but if you ever get serious about them, you'll want to either mod them or purchase hard mats. I chose to mod mine.
