Default Dual Shock 1 & Dual Shock 2 - Can you swap the casing?

Does anybody know if you can swap the casing between the Dual Shock 1 & the Dual Shock 2? I want to get 4 different colors but the Dual Shock 2 doesn't come in the colors I like...whats up with these smokey colors? Couldn't they ALSO release the DS-2 in solid colors? Perhaps the solid colors didn't sell too well. Who knows. ANYWAY. I know theyre the same size but maybe the mountings are different on the inside. If this will work then Ill try to find a few broken colored ones and swap the casing with some working standard ones.

I would think that you could. They didn't really change anything on the controllers, except making the chip in it so it only plays on the ps2. Wouldn't hurt to give it a shot. You just gave me a good idea to, Thanks.

You should be able to since comparing a clear PS1 and PS2 controller, all the parts look to be of the same size.

Incorrect, I use DualShock2's on my PlayStation and PSOne all the time. The changes were to making all the buttons (sans start, select, and analog) pressure sensitive and stiffening up the analog sticks.

What I was meaning to say was that you couldn't play pretty much all of the ps2 games with a regular analog controller (not sure if there was a couple that you could play with or not), which as you mentioned was because of the pressure sensitive buttons and stiffened analog sticks, which I didn't know of. Looks like you caught my mistake.

Actually it seems very few games REQUIRE a DS2..if any (well, I'm sure there are some). I don't have a DS2 (picked my PS2 up loose & cheap sans controller) and use a standard DS when playing my PS2. Haven't ran into any problems yet. Anybody know of a list of games that require a DS2?

no. I tried putting ps2 parts into a clear blue ps1 'troller and it was a no go.

Triple Play Baseball was one, as well as racing games is you don't want to go full throttle all the time. I found a list on the net, but can't seem to find it anymore. If I come across the link I'll post it.

Mad Maestro is pretty much the Dual Shock 2 pressure sensitivity poster child. The gameplay is practically built around them. You have to conduct your orchestra, and you do soft, medium, or hard presses to control the volume, while pressing the button at the proper tempo. It's really simple, but pretty entertaining. The game absolutely will not play with a PS1 Dual Shock.
