Did they close the Fuddruckers site to fix it? I get "connection refused" when I try to go there.

I admire Briggster for taking the hard line against someone stealing his content, but at the same time...I'm sure he got Data East's permission to do his version of Burgertime.

(And before someone says it, yeah, I know Data East has been belly-up for a while, but he dates the game further back than their bankruptcy.)

I was thinking that too, but I'd say he's more worried that they DIRECTLY HOTLINKED the file from his space, wasting his bandwidth..and giving him the ability to make his revenge happen.

I had a hotlinker once. Replaced it with a large, offensive image encouraging the poster to be banned. Good times.

I routinely check my site activity for any indication that someone's linked to a graphic on my website for an eBay auction. Anytime I find someone doing this, I reroute any references to that image on my own server to a renamed file, and replace the hotlinked image with a standard graphic that basically says that the seller is stealing this image, and my bandwidth, and as such probably won't have any qualms about stealing your money.

It's funny to watch the auction get "revised" very quickly after that...

I used to Goatse hotlinkers but then I started getting more creative, especially when they'd hotlink my videos. I started going to TheHun.net and finding the most offensive and vile hermaphrodite porn I could find and getting them with that. Someone linked to a live action counter strike video i was hosting (someone on a major CS site) and ate up >9 gigs of bandwidth in a day. I swapped that shit out with a shemale plowing a guy's dirtbox with a fucking vengence. Othertimes I'll use Kids_in_Sandbox and get people with that (such as when some assholes hotlinked castin.mov)

I think a lot of people (especially those tools on Slashdot) are seeing it all wrong, really. A lot of people seem to think that it's ok to link to the game because hey, that's just how the web was designed to work. I think that's just piss poor netiquete. Hell, even asking and then hotlinking is bullshit. They should have asked and then mirrored the file at the very least. Not asking AND hotlinking? That's stealing his work and his bandwidth...something that maybe fuddruckers could cope with but expecting average joe to put up with that shit is just retarded.

Seeing assholes get served when they hotlink always puts a smile on my face.

Same here. I use google as my start page, and whenever I try to go to Fuddruckers.com, it sends me to the English version of the google search (I use "general" google, not the english one, whatever the difference is...)

That was awesome. Great story. I don't know if the creator of the game got permission or rights to use the Burgertime theme. If not, he can get sued too. So I doubt there is anything he can do legally. I like how he got revenge though. You can tell he is professional as he did not flame them using cuss words or anything. He kept it clean and kept if fun at the same time.
