Default Anybody lose weight from gaming too much? Seriously!!!

I just got a EyeToy the other day, I thought it would be neat for my kids to run around and try to play stuff with it.

I popped in EyeToy Groove, and I had to try to do it for awhile to show my kid how to do it, and man, afer awhile I was breaking a sweat. I was only playing around with the thing for about 20 minutes, but I was started to get sweaty. Of course this tells you that I'm an out of shape lard ass, but still, with the dancing games and the eye toy and the upcoming Nintendo Revolution, there is the actual possibility of losing weight while playing video games! Now there is an interesting concept.

You know, by the way, I've always wanted to have a exercise bike that I could hook up to my game system, and ride my bike around in the game. The handlebars would control the steering the pedals would control the speed, etc, etc. With the technology of the modern day systems, they could make the graphics really amazing too, so you would have some nice scenery. I need to lose weight anyways, so I might as well game while I lose weight.

I've lost 10kg (~22lb) playing copous amounts of Dance Dance Revolution. Just on Light and Standard mode too!

I'd like to lose more, sure, but I'm very very happy with my current weight at the moment.

Something like a home version of Prop Cycle would've been ideal.

How many hours a week do you play that, or any other games that require you to get your fat arse off the couch?

Just kidding, I don't know if you really have a fat arse or not.

What's that arcade game where you're riding a downhilll mountain bike? Man, that game is a workout. I used to ride/play that in Japan and it's honestly a harder workout than DDR.

I toned up and looked even hotter after a few months of DDR goodness.

Downhill Bikers by Namco. They had this at my local arcade and I would always put one or two runs on it every visit. After that point, I'd be too tired to do it again...great fun, though, you could do wacky tricks and different terrain would give the pedal more resistance.

If I owned one of those things I'd probably be in great shape.

Believe it or not there was a time when I was in a serious funk due to being laid off from my job (union electrician). At the time Final fantasy X had just come out and my buddy let me borrow his PS2 and his copy of the game. I played that title almost 8 hours a day for two weeks. From the moment my wife left the house in the morning to the time when she returned I laid on the couch and played. I did not eat, hell I rarely got up to take a piss. When it got unbearable I got up but other than that, I didn’t move off the couch. Slowly I lost my appetite and got to where I was barely eating once a day. In the two weeks I lost over 10lbs.

I was finally rehired and not I’m fat again (220lbs) but that’s a true story…

    Take a hike, wang-broom!
I swear I can smell your stinky hands from here!

Right on, that's it. Damn you had to bike your ass off to finish first in those races. What a killer game ...

I have so little body fat that I actually gain weight from playing DDR/PIU/ITG. If I play enough, I turn into like 25% calf muscle.

There was a web site I came across awhile back that was about exercising and video games. I think it was this one:

    http://www.getupmove.com/

Some of you may find it interesting.

Nope, only gained weight from gaming...

But this DDR business has me interested, I have a dreamcast pad... and Feet of fury, is it worth playing feet of fury for so many hours to lose some skin? Or is that game not fast paced enough? I havent had a good play through it yet..

Are there any PS1 dancing games with a workout mode? I am really interested

Hmm, I think all 3 PS1 DDRs have some kind of workout mode, don't they? And if not, no big deal, since you'll be having too much fun playing the game to care anyways.

I was actually thinking about this on the way back just now, but more in the sense of what smokehouse was saying. I woke up today and instead of eating breakfast, I played burnout. I've been awake for 4 hours now and I'm just eating, partly because I instantly started playing burnout.

I gained 5 pounds sitting on my ass playing Socom a few years ago. I never lost any weight playing video games.

I lost 25 pounds in the 2 months after my wife started playing FFXI. She stopped cooking so I stopped eating. Since then, her online time has been more moderate so my weight was pretty much stayed constant. She lost 45 pounds and is maintaining now.

I lost around 125 lbs... once I divorced my non-gaming wife.

    Baaa-zzing! :P
