When you look at your calander, days you play are marked with a keyhole thing, some of these days are marked with red ones? whats up with the red ones, and why has it taken me months of playing to notice?

I think that means that the locked days in your journal cant be read by other humans living in your town.
Somebody once told me to get a life.
I told them I sold it for money to buy video games.
strange I dont have anything written in on thoses days, nor anyother day for that matter. I think it might have something to do with receiving gifts, or jobs on thoses days from travelers and such?
I think those are just the days you visited your town

Red locks are generally days which something may have happened on, or you spoke to Tortimer and got an item from him...
