I recently received a bunch of Playstation games, quite a few in the long box, and many titles that I never really heard of. I was just wondering if there were any rarity lists or if any of you folks knew what some rare titles are. Thanks.

Hey Joe!!!! I think I asked you this before....What issue was that in of T&T you profiled rare & collectible PS games? The Keeper
The Gaming Guy...you know...that guy!!
Not everyone here subscribes or reads Tips & Tricks... perhaps an online list would be nice.
I've some nice ($50-$100) offers for Puzzle Fighter 2 for the PSX a few months back... I guess that says something.

Yep, sure looks like it's quite sought after, although something tells me with all the copies of it that are online, 'rare' might be streching it.
Pop on over to the rarity lists section of this site. The Playatation section is almost done.
A few that immediately spring to mind:
Dragon Ball Z GT
Suikoden II
Bust-a-Groove 2
The Lightspan Educational games
Yeah, we're working on the rarities now, though - some of them can be found on the list at:
http://www.digitpress.com/lists.htm
I still don't think Suikoden 2 is RARE! Uncommon sure, but I think the "rare" thing is hype for Suiky 2 being as I've had something like 5 or 6 copies over the last 2 years. The ones I KNOW are rare are games like Intelligent Qube, Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo, Raiden Project?, and Dragonball GT Final Bout (which I have seen in the wild once!).
Some of the games that aren't TRULY rare but are getting spendy are:
Ogre Battle
Tactics Ogre
Suikoden 2
FF Tactics (original black label before the repress)
Ghost in the Shell (fairly uncommon but not TOO spendy yet)
Castlevania: Symphony of Night (common but getting spendy)
There are a lot of borderline titles that only sometimes sell high too...mostly stuff like FF Anthology and other RPGs. There aren't a TON of truly rare PSX games though, as far as I know.

I agree - I'm looking more at the "high ticket items" than the truly "rare" ones. It's tough to put rarities on a system library that has 1200 titles and is still being produced!Originally Posted by maxlords
Just like Chrono Trigger for the SNES.
Another day, another dollar... wake me when it's payday.
still playing games
I totally agree. It's just that a LOT of people don't know the difference between rare and "in demand". And they're not going to learn the difference if we never tell them, so I always try to tell people that game X is worth money but not rare, and game Y is rare, even if it's not worth money. It's strange how some of the rarest games aren't worth much at all, and some of the most common games ever command top prices!Originally Posted by digitalpress

I'll try to be more careful next time.
In a post a week or two ago I mentioned that searches on Suikoden II on eBay typically yield a full page of results.
i know this is kinda new, but i have not seen it anywhere.

My life and perception has changed, but my principals are the same.
Games I would consider ER:
All Lightspan titles, of course
Adidas Power Soccer 98
Adventures of Lomax
Baseball 2000 (Interplay Sports)
Bogey Dead 6
Braindead 13
Brunswick Bowling 2
Dragonball GT Final Bout
Dragonheart: Fire & Steel
F1 Racing Championship
Fox Hunt
Goal Storm '97
Herc's Adventures
In the Hunt
ISS Pro Evolution
Lemmings 3d
Lethal Enforcers 1 + 2
Micro Machines V3
Power Rangers Zeo Power Pinball
Power Serve Tennis
Psychic Detective
Psychic Force
Punky Skunk
Roadsters
Robo Pit
Samurai Shodown Warrior's Rage
Shanghai: True Valor
Silverload
Spot Goes to Hollywood
Starfighter
Starblade Alpha
Striker Pro 2000
Syndicate Wars
Team Buddies
Tecmo World Golf
The Crow: City of Angels
True Pinball
Viewpoint
V-Tennis
Viva Soccer
Zoop
All these are quite often unavailable on ebay - quite a few sell less than once a month. They're also all titles that I haven't seen more than once in the wild.
As for *expensive* games, it's a totally different matter. The games that sell for a lot ($50 or more pretty much every time) are:
Brunswick Bowling 2
Bust a Move 2
DDR Disney
Dragonball GT Final Bout
Intelligent Qube
Lunar: SSS (if complete with all the extras)
Lunar 2: EB (as above)
Street Fighter Collection 2
Suikoden II
Super Puzzle Fighter 2
Tactics Ogre
I suspect the PSX will have quite a collector's value in the future, though, and it's worth picking up games now while they're dirt cheap. This list doesn't include games released within the last six months or so, since it's too hard to tell their future rarities.
Is D playstation longbox rare? I thought it was so I said so in the auction listing. I started to play it, it's scary!
Lexicon also picked up Lemmings 3d last week. I hassled him about it because I didn't know it was really rare, oops.

D's not common, and it's worth a bit, but I wouldn't consider it one of the really rare titles. You see it around on a decent basis.
@kevincure: I hope you mean Bust-a-GROOVE 2, I've seen Bust-a-Move 2 many many times and will commence kicking myself if that's really a game people are paying a lot for.
DP.. yeah, Bust-a-Groove 2 is what I meant, sorry for that confusion :-). Bust-a-Move 2 is pretty common, though the 3 PSX Bust-a-Moves are worth 15-20 each, so worth picking up if you see them cheap. I believe Bust-a-Move 99 is the hardest to find of the three, though still not too hard to pick up.
