Default THE rarest GameBoy and GameBoy Color games

I searched for this and couldn't find anything on this. Anyway on to the topic.....

As on late I've been thinking about expanding my small GB & GBC collections. I looked through the guide on which titiles that are the hardest to get and lots on titles are R5 and R6 but I couldn't find what are the hardest to get titles for the systems. So what are the hardest US released GB & GBC titles to get? A list would be helpful when looking for games at game stores and flea markets. Thanks in advance.

this is a very hard question to answer. For one there isn't a huge crowd into collecting handheld games like these and second there are a ton or rare games for these systems. many games had smaller print runs. GB and GBC seem to have been a test market for game ideas and such.

Tough call because nobody really collects for it.
I don't think there is anybody who has complete Gameboy or Gameboy Color collections, so nobody would be able to say "this game was the hardest for me to find."
DreamTR might know a bit about this.

The Izec sewing cartridge went for like 60 on ebay once, so i would guess that is the grail of GBC games

Try the rarity guide, searching for U.S. releases with scarcity >= 5.

Cannon Fodder is (Or was) rather rare if I recall. Resident Evil Gaiden is fairly hard to come by too, and Pokemon Crystal is fairly *Rare* (Read: Sought after, not technically a rare though)

Then you have the Final Fantasy Legend games and FF: Adventure which are also fairly sought after too.

Obviously, if you have certain common games but in sealed condition, it could increase the rarity value tenfold. Ie, Tetris... A sealed Tetris would surely be worth a mint these days...

Final Fantasy Legends is hard to find, in fact they were selling a prototype on ebay for Final Fantasy Legends II, the auction may still be up.

The original print runs of the FF Legend series are relatively hard to find and are considered 'collector's items', but not the second print run - the reprint that happened at some point in the GBC lifespan.

The rarity of these games goes up very high when you take into consideration if the game has a BOX or not.

I would say Mike Etler would know much more about said rarity on some of this stuff than I would. I am trying to go for a complete BOXED set, but some games seem to be much harder to find than others. I don't really count the "Sachen" Games for Game Boy, nor do I count the Interact unlicensed GBC games. Those could be had in the very beginning if you contacted the company, but their "US" release status is pretty skewed. To put rarity in perspective, I have had complete copies of those games before I even started collecting GB/GBC games, but I am STILL looking for the Spud's Adventure box, and we are still trying to find out the existence of Hercules, Robocop, and ISS '99 as official USA GBC releases.

I would say the hardest Game Boy game to find in the USA LOOSE would be Amaz'n Tater. You can regularly obtain all of the GB releases from ebgames.com at decent prices, but this, Toxic Crusaders, Gear Works, and a handful of others never show...

Not to wander off topic too far, but the Toxic Crusaders game on Gameboy is actually really fun; way better than the NES or Genesis incarnations. It's a fairly blatant knockoff of TMNT: Fall of the Foot Clan, but maybe that's why it is fun.

The cart is no longer available through the manufacturer, nor the sewing machine itself, but I was able to buy the instruction manual from them for about $15. Pretty interesting item in itself, really...there's all kinds of screenshots and such in the instructions on how to execute different patterns and sewing techniques.

I also recall there being a rare sonar fishing cartridge, not a game, but a tool to find fish in the water.

this is reminding me of the time i bought a second boxed copy of megaman for gameboy .i was at a pawnshop and they had a perfect copy of it so i shelled out $20 for it and my best friend thought it was stupid.i think its near impossible to really talk rares on gameboy.being that most games were owned by young kids im sure most were destroyed or look like garbage.at the used place i work at we get so few games in per week.over the years ive lucked out finding mint in box games but i cant imagine its that easy of a thing to come by.

This goes without saying. You don't need to post this in every single topic about rarity. NOBODY CARES. o_o

Let me clarify, Toxic Crusaders USA version is hard to find, not the European version.
