If you're looking for Abandonware then look no further then The Home of the Underdogs.
Thanks, I'll sneak a peak
Kings quest and sim city offical versions are still considered licensed wares so underdogs doesnt have them.

They remade King's Quest into a better version of the same game.
Abandonia has a nice collection as well. And I thought I just read that Sierra got an injunction against the Kings Quest remake (something about an upcoming anthology). However that site still has the download ...
If you want to skim a little closer to the realm of legality, you can legally get the Amiga versions of pretty much all of Sierra's games from Back2Roots.org.
Downside is that they're the Amiga versions, so you'll either need to do some ninjawork to get them working in the freeware/open source engines or you'll need to grab yourself some kickstart roms and get WinUAE up and running.
Upside is that the games are both legal and better than their PC-DOS counterparts, with the exception of King's Quest V and VI (where the PC-CDROM versions were better).
Not very long ago the Maxis/EA website (ONE of those sites!) had the original SimCity for a FREE download. To promote SimCity 4, I believe. They may still have it up.
And I checked, the Tierra remake of King's Quest 1 and 2 is still active.

#oldgames (or maybe #oldgamez) on Efnet on IRC is the best bet you have!
Pretty much and PC Game you ever played is on there!
Geez, it's been a while since anyone has posted in this topic I was wondering if any of you guys have seen a place to legally download the originally Oregon Trail, either the completely original one or a remake of the original, and one that will work on Win XP.
If you didn't say legal then I would have offered to make some images of this 3 cd Oregon Trail 4th Edition (1999) that I picked up for $3 at the thrift storeOriginally Posted by The Great Dane
Sadly, all reviews indicate that it sucks balls, but hey...it was $3!
I have the Oregon Trail on floppy disc, it's the official DOS release from the 80's. I could zip it up and send it to you, don't think there's much to be made from the original at all really, especially the floppy version. Or you can google around for a bit to find a download of it, but most of the on-line downloads are newer than mine so if you want real oldschool let me know.

Yeah, that would be great if you don't mind. The original one is what I am looking for. Thanks. Would I be able to play it with Windows XP?Originally Posted by cyberfluxor
FYI, that was an online-only Java version, and it was originally out to promote SimCity 3000.Originally Posted by SoulBlazer
"Legally"? There is no "legally". Copyrights take a very, very long time to expire, and companies do not generally release such things as freeware.Originally Posted by The Great Dane
Anyway, Home of the Underdogs does indeed have a version of The Oregon Trail which ought to work fine under XP if you use DOSBox, but you are probably better off playing the emulated Apple II version at Virtual Apple. (It runs inside your browser, so there's no complex setup involved!)

Heres the Oregon Trail image for the Apple II: http://www.classicgaming.com/rotw/roms/otrail.zip
Then for an emulator personally I recommend APPLEWIN <-(click) It's so hassle free, it's great. Really
The browser thing is ok (just play the game here if you want to go that route: http://www.virtualapple.org/oregontraildisk.html ) but I prefer to have it running full screen and in green monochrome (using the handy dandy button on the right) So it's AppleWin for me
Thanks a lot for the help, guys. I ended up checking out the one that you play at the website, and it worked great. Thanks again.
Gah, Underdogs is reeling. Hopefully this is but a temporary outage.
