Default Set the World Record for the Largest VG Collection!

So I got thinking about the Guinness Book of World Records and then the Rooms of Doom, and it hit me: I should search the records for the world's largest video game collection.

To my surprise, Guinness has no record for the world's biggest collection. So I think we need to change this!

We should make categories and nominate collections. I'll get us started.

    Computer Game Collection
    Console Game Collection
    Arcade Game Collection
    [Video Game Series] Collection
    [Game Company] Collection

Not a bad idea, but there are probly ppl who have alot more games than anyone on this board. But it wouldnt hurt to send in an application if someone wants that

Bear in mind that Guiness may actually charge you up to £1,000 ($2,000) to verify a 'world record' for inclusion in their book ... as the campaigning group I work for found out to their dismay, after spending several years creating the world's biggest dress (as yet unverified ... got better things to spend out money on!).

That would be cool. I'd really like to see who would have the biggest one. What would count though? Prototypes? Imports? Imports would definitely count, but there are some other issues that could be considered. There are always the 'underground' collectors too who nobody has ever heard about that have massive collections. Still, I think Joe's got them beat.

Whoever held the world record, would probably be the only person willing to give up both their time and money to verify their collection.

And, everyday, our collection counts change. It could be Person A today, and Person B tomorrow, and Person C the day after. Such is the nature of collecting - especially video games.

    Seems futile.

Akthough it is a very interesting notion and it would be fun to follow, there would be too many rules. For example it would have to include restrictions stating something like "only one game of the same title on the same system" So that somebody doesn't spend 1000$ and get a million SMB/DH carts or something similar.

Maybe we could all send in some money to help pay the fee? and then have the guy embrace digital press in the record (saying something like well his nickname is dp which is digital press... or have pictures with digital press swag in them ).

How about just biggest video game collection on one site? lol

They dont always charge for verification, I know a guy in town(my friends uncle) who was in Guiness for the most surgeries(this was years ago) and i dont think he had to pay cash. Different circumstances i guess but maybe they wouldnt charge.

I'd chuck in $10 towards the goal. That's what the Web site Fundable is all about: people put out a small part of a larger cash purse, and then either pay for what they were working towards, or if the goal isn't met or is otherwise unwarrented, the money is disbursed back to its senders without fee.

But first we need nominations. I heard Joe's name. Who else?

Holy crap, I thought Tim Arnold's 400+ was the world's largest. Can I come visit too?

Yeah, he's a really cool guy. He probably wouldn't mind He also owns the rights to all Bally/Williams, Capcom and Alvin G pinball games. He's been at the last couple Midwest Gaming Classics, and he's an amazing guy to talk with.

For a picture of his auction that was held a while ago, check here:

I only wish I had known about it then!

That is a cool idea, if they can have a catagory for the longest nipple hair on a man then why not a for the largest video game collection.

This would be cool, but how would they go by the largest collection? number of games, rarest games, most systems? They would probably go by the number of games, in which case I would hope they make sure the guy doesnt have a 1000 mario/duck hunts.

And A security system and insurance will cost more than $2,000.

Anyone with a collection that could even be considered as record-breaking/holding should probably already have a security system anyway, global advertisement or not.

Arnold and Cunningham are like frickin' heroes. Granted, they collect pins from all eras, which obviously helps with their numbers, it's hard not to cry inside with envy even if 75% of their games don't interest me personally.

I can't wait to build my own warehouse for my collection - that's when you've made it. Or gone insane, broke, or both.
