    Default atari tron joystick

i was looking at this the other day and thinking how much cooler this stick would be if it lit up. it would probably be a pretty simple operation to stick an LED in there to illuminate it. has anyone ever tried this? or can someone with more of an electronics background than myself (which is nil) tell me why this should not be attempted?

i'm planning on opening this stick up again soon anyway because that plastic collar piece on the inside is broken (like a lot of these i suspect). i found a pair of regular black sticks with the same retractable cord base made by the same company at the sal last year (both working perfectly) so my plan is to cannibalize one of those to make the tron stick perfect. it would be a good time to add the light if it's do-able.

    so any thoughts?

from the console? obviously i haven't looked at pinouts or anything yet but what i'm envisioning is a small LED like the analog light on a ps2 controller.

Sounds to me like you're getting ready to kill a bunch of stuff before knowing what you're doing exactly - that in the end will leave you with an assortment of canabalized non-working parts.

I've seen the mod done a couple times to the arcade grip sticks in actual TRON machines as well as TRON sticks integrated into MAME cabinets. Can't remember where off the top of my head though. In the case of what you're doing it'll be the same so...

If you want to illuminate a TRON stick you need to run that glow wire through it, like what's in the glowing PS2 microcon controllers.
