    Default Sega CD no power.

I have model I and II Sega CD units that have no power at all, I want to try to repair them. Is there a common component that fails in them, or is it anyone's guess until I open them up and test them? If it is, anyone got any tips on what to look for?

You should find your answers in the Knowledge Base.

Chances are it's the 'F1' fuse near the power supply.

Apart from the f1 fuse there arent really any other 'quick fix' known problems with the sega/mega cd are there?

Spose I only have myself to blame for buying an "untested" Mega CD (that suspiciously already had screws missing from the bottom)..

If you can locate the busted fuse, one of the easiest fixes that I have ever heard of is to simply remove the fuse and take a sodering gun and take some wire and just bypass where the fuse would have usualy been. This way the electricity can continue to flow properly so that you can play your system. Only flaws that I see with this method is the fact that something had to happen the the system to blow that fuse, wether it was using an incorrect adaptor (*cough* NES Adaptor *cough*), a power surge, or possibly just something wrong with you power adaptor or system, something caused that fuse to blow and by bypassing the fuse, whatever that thing was could happen again with no protection left for the system as the fuse has been removed possibly damaging the system permently!

Wouldn't it be better to just put a slightly larger fuse in place of the old one instead of bypassing it?

I would definitely not reccomend bypassing the fuse. You will probably further damage the system, and you could conceivable start a fire. Buy many fuses, try one, and if it immediately blows than your real problem is elsewhere. Make sure you have the correct power supply, and that its working correctly.

I jst want to make sure that everyone knows that I am not recomending to bypass the fuse, I am actually somewhat aginst it, I am just saying that it is a possibility, a way to get your system working again, as long as there are not any problems that would cause the system to be immedently burned again.

The knowledge base doesn't list the site with the instructions on how to replace the fuse, can someone post the link please?

A three-year bump and mad props to the community for having this information available.

Years ago I bought a Model I "Piggyback" style Sega CD dirt cheap because of the no-power issue. Found it today while cleaning out the garage and decided to see what I could do about it. The fuse thing sounded easy enough. $1.60 at Radio Shack, 2 quick dabs of solder and this baby is singing!

I've got a Type II side-loader which works fine, but for some reason I've always considered that model to be a pain-al in the anal. The Piggyback is much nicer. Now I have incentive to explore some more of my Sega CD titles.

Now that I think about it, there's a local shop that might have a couple of these in the broken bin. Hello, fix & trade....

    Thanks again, gang!!

I'm not much with electronics, but I have the same problem. Does anyone know if this fuse would work? http://www.tedss.com/item.asp?id=2021006678 If not, could you direct me to the proper replacement?
